BA enters unbeaten contest

Central Hinds Academy travels to R.M. “Red” Stuard Field Fridaynight to meet the Brookhaven Academy Cougars in a MAIS District4-AA showdown between unbeaten rival Cougar teams. The game beginsat 7 p.m.

In other area academy action, powerhouse Jackson Prep entertainsCopiah and East Rankin invades Parklane at McComb.

In last week’s games Brookhaven Academy crushed Amite School Center41-8 and Central Hinds shut out Bowling Green, La., 42-0

Brookhaven Academy improved to 1-0 in the division and 4-0 on theseason. Head coach Herbert Davis watched film on Central Hinds andtalked about this week’s opponent.

“This is a very big conference game,” said Davis “It is time tostep up or step out. Central Hinds has a good football team. Theyare big up front and they have a very athletic quarterback.Defensively, this will a good challenge for our guys.”

In the win over ASC, BA quarterback Chandler Rogers led theBrookhaven offense, completing 9 of his 12 pass attempts for 167yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, he picked up 23 yards on 3carries. Jennings Mills was the leading rusher with 6 carries for90 yards and three scores.

Sidney Chaffin led all receivers with 4 receptions for 121 yardsand three scores. Gage Posey completed four of his 10 pass attemptsfor 83 yards and a touchdown. Eli Gatlin picked up 65 yards on 7carries in support.

On defense, Bailey Hodge led the Cougars with seven tackles. CodyHenley and Alan Michael Allred followed with 6 stops apiece. Allredand Joseph Grice recovered a fumble.

Central Hinds (4-0, 1-0), coached by Todd Montgomery, is having agood season. “We have come together as a team,” said Montgomery.”We are playing as a unit and everything is going our way.”

The Raymond-based Cougars have nine seniors providing goodleadership for the team. Offensively, they rely on the runninggame, which is led by Jordan Currie (5-10, 175) a juniorquarterback.

At running back, senior Hunter Farrior (6-0, 195) likes to run theball hard. The offensive line has three seniors helping to holddown the trenches

Defensively, Central Hinds is led by middle linebackers Farrior andLee Douglas (6-0, 210, sr.).

After studying game film on Brookhaven, Montgomery talked about theBA Cougars. “Brookhaven is a well-coached team and they have beenvery successful. This is the game we have been looking for. It’sgoing to be a good district matchup.”

In the victory over Bowling Green, Currie passed for two touchdownsand had one rushing touchdown to led the offense.

Copiah (1-2) is coming off a 32-28 loss last week to the publicschool Pisgah Dragons at Gallman. Coach Scotty Cline’s Colonelstravel to Jackson Friday to face the powerful Jackson PrepPatriots.

Jackson Prep (3-1) fell to public school Pearl 35-28 last week in abattle of cross-town rivals.

In the win over Copiah, Antoine Smith ran and passed for 217 yardsand 3 touchdowns. Jay Winsley rushed the ball for 136 yards on 20carries and scored two touchdowns.

Parklane (2-1) enjoyed a 38-20 win last Friday over StarkvilleAcademy. Coached by Bo Milton, the Pioneers entertain East Rankinthis week for their first AAA conference game.

East Rankin (2-2) hammered Canton Academy 49-14 in last week’saction.

In the win over Starkville Academy, Parklane senior quarterbackBrandon Austin ran for 273 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.Sophomore running back Joseph Clark added 106 yards and threetouchdowns on 20 rushing attempts.

Senior linebacker Hunter Ray led the Pioneer defense with seventackles.
