Panthers crush Bears

The Brookhaven Lady Panthers took five innings to crush the WestLincoln Lady Bears 14-2 Thursday night in slowpitch softballaction. The Panthers capitalized on seven errors committed by theBears scoring all of their runs in the first and secondinnings.

“We hit the ball well in spurts,” said Brookhaven head coach LisaCovington.

The Panthers (10-4, 2-0) resume action Saturday traveling to Summitto play in the North Pike Tournament. Brookhaven will face BogueChitto at 11:15 a.m., Columbia at 1:45 p.m. and the Jaguars at4:15. The Bears (6-8, 0-1) will take a week off before having totravel to Bogue Chitto to play the Cats Thursday for a District 1Ashowdown.

BHS 14, WL 2

Brooke Hosick (0K, 1BB) pitched the win for the Panthers. JessicaFranklin (0K, 1BB) absorbed the loss for the Bears.

Leftfielder Christen Benson led Brookhaven’s offensive attack witha double and a single. Madeline DeLaughter, Erica Lenior and Hosickcontributed two singles apiece. Erica Bridwell provided a double.Hitting safely were Emily Freeman and Dana Herring.

Left centerfielder Karli Herrington led West Lincoln with twodoubles and a single. Haley Ainsworth and Katie Hester hit a doubleapiece. Malori Hall belted two singles. Katie Mullins and Franklincontributed a single apiece.

In JV action, The Bears battled the Panthers to the time limit andsettled for a 4-4 tie.

Heather Moak and Hanna Moak helped lead West Lincoln with twosingles apiece. Bentley Sills provided a double. Hitting safelywere Alli Mullins, Brittnee Blakeney, Brianna Fauver and MillaneLewis.

Mandy Jackson was the leading batter for Brookhaven with a tripleand a single. Ivy Smith, Cheyenne Smith, Carlee Ballard, EmilyMezzanares and Haley Speaks hit a single apiece.
