5-0 BA invades 5-0 Simpson

A big showdown between a pair of unbeaten Cougar football teamsis on tap Friday night when Brookhaven Academy travel to Mendenhallto face Simpson Academy. Both teams are 5-0 on the season. The gamebegins at 7 p.m.
In area academy action, Copiah travels to Central Hinds andParklane invades Natchez to face Adams County Christian School.Kickoff is 7 p.m.
Brookhaven Academy (5-0, 2-0), coached by Hebert Davis, is comingoff a 42-13 victory over Central Hinds. Simpson Academy crushedHillcrest Christian 49-3 last week.
Brookhaven Academy senior quarterback Chandler Rogers talked aboutthis year’s Simpson County team after watching them on film.
“Simpson has a lot of size like Central Hinds, but they arefaster,” said Rogers.
“It is going to be a war,” said BA coach Herbert Davis. “Simpson isa very big and physical. They have a very good running back that isathletic and fast. We have got play our best game of the year towin.”
In BA’s win over Central Hinds, Rogers rushed the ball 12 times for108 yards and five touchdowns. He completed 11 of 18 passes for 197yards.
Bubba Keene led the Cougars receiving corps with 5 catches for 74yards. Making two receptions for 52 yards was Will Lucas.
Rogers and Duckworth were recognized as The DAILY LEADER’sOffensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
On defense, defensive end C.J. Duckworth led BA with 17 tackles.Bailey Hodge had 15 tackles and a blocked extra point. Alan MichaelAllred had 12 tackles.
In last year’s game, Brookhaven defeated Simpson 37-14.
Copiah Academy (1-3) head coach Scott Cline is getting his Colonelsready to travel to Jackson to meet the Cougars of Central Hinds.The Colonels fell to the Jackson Prep Patriots 38-22 last week in aAAA district test.
In the loss to Jackson Prep, Kalen Smith led Copiah, scoring twotouchdowns of 52 yards and a 8 yards for the Colonels. Devin Harperalso punched in a 2-yard touchdown.
Parklane (3-1, 1-0), coached by Bo Milton, put together a 10-6 winover East Rankin Academy. The Pioneers travel to Natchez to facethe undefeated Rebels of Adams County Christian School.
ACCS (5-0) thumped the Prairie View Spartans 42-25 lastFriday.
In the win over East Rankin, Parklane senior quarterback BrandonAustin led the Pioneers with 77 yards rushing on 19 carries.Sophomore running back Joseph Clark added 23 yards on 11touches.
