Lady Panthers win pair

The Brookhaven Lady Panthers captured two of three games in theOle Brook softball tournament Saturday. The Panthers crushed theLawrence County Lady Cougars 11-1, edged the Picayune Lady MaroonTide 6-4, and lost to Brandon’s Lady Bulldogs 18-8.

Brookhaven (15-7, 3-0) resumes action today, traveling to WestLincoln to face the Lady Bears. Action begins with junior varsityat 5 p.m., followed by varsity at 6.

Pitcher Brooke Hosick won two of three games for the Panthers inthe tournament.

Hosick led Brookhaven’s offensive attack with three singles. DanaHerring and Erica Bridwell continued the onslaught with two singlesapiece. Hitting safely were Sarah Ayers, Emily Freeman, MadelineDeLaughter and Erica Lenior.

BHS 6, Picayune 4

Leftfielder Sarah Ayers led the Lady Panthers with a home run andsingle. Hosick provided three singles. DeLaughter hit two singles.Rashana Stewart, Emily Freeman and Lenior collected a singleapiece.

Brandon 18, BHS 8

Ayers continued to have a hot bat from the last game by hitting ahome run and a single to lead Brookhaven against Brandon. ShelbyCase, Hosick and DeLaughter provided two singles apiece. Bridwellhit a double. Hitting safely were Taylor Murray and Freeman.
