Bogue Chitto blanks West Lincoln

Sophomore Brandon Wells rushed two times for 53 yards and scoredtwo touchdowns as Bogue Chitto shut out their county rivals theWest Lincoln Bears 42-0 in Region 4-1A contest Friday night onPerry Miller Field. The Bobcats (4-2, 2-0) rolled up 367 yards onoffense.

“It was good to get the win in district,” said BC head coach GarethSartin. “We started the game off slow and struggled to get ouroffense going. West Lincoln did a very good job keeping the ballaway from us in the first half. We basically did the things weneeded to win.”

In the first quarter, Bogue Chitto struck quickly on the secondplay of the game. Colton McClendon caught a 50-yard pass fromquarterback Brock Roberts for a touchdown with 11:07 remaining.Garrett Wallace went six-for-six on extra points for thenight.

West Lincoln (0-6, 0-2) answered back after that touchdown bysustaining a long drive for most of the first quarter.

Bogue Chitto took notice to the situation and scored anothertouchdown quickly as Chris Hall sprinted 43-yards with 8 secondsremaining.

The Bobcats’ defense stepped up their game after their offensescored and did not allow the Bears’ offense to get thingsgoing.

The offense of Bogue Chitto managed to score two more touchdowns inthe second quarter. Frank Thigpen recovered a fumble in the endzone with 8:48 left. Wells scored on a 15-yard run with 44 secondremaining. The Bobcats led 28-0 over the Bears at halftime.

In the second half, both teams played hard in the tough andphysical battle. BC’s coaches elected to play their younger playersthrough out the rest of the game.

James Blackwell managed to score on a 22-yard run with 7:10remaining in the third quarter as the Bobcats increased their leadto 35-0.

Well scored his second touchdown in the fourth quarter, and thefinal TD of the game, as he rushed 38 yards to paydirt with 8:20remaining.

“Bogue Chitto has got a good team and some athletics players,” saidWest Lincoln head coach Chris Calcote. “Overall, we gave a goodeffort. I thought we played very well in the first half. Us ascoaches still have to do a better job in getting our kids ready toplay.”

Defensively, Kevin Brothern led the Bobcats with 10 tackles. TevinTobias, Keith Arnold and Blackwell also contributed 8 tackles andone sack apiece. Scott Saucier intercepted a pass.

Hunter Fauver led West Lincoln with 5 tackles. Jeremy Laird,Jonathan Smith and Jamin Conrad provided 4 tackles. Jonah King andLaird recovered a fumble.

Offensively, Thigpen led the Bogue Chitto ground attack with 80yards rushing on 4 carries. Hall provided 47 yards on 2 carries.McClendon collected 44 yards on 2 rushes and caught one pass for 50yards. Roberts completed 2 of 5 passes for 52 yards.

Tailback Deon Moore led the Bears’ offense with 58 yards on 16rushes. Alston Bozeman provided 26 yards on 6 carries. Kingcompleted 6 passes on 10 attempts for 32 yards and ran 14 yards on8 carries. Fauver led the receivers with one catch for 12yards.

Bogue Chitto returns home Friday to host the Sebastopol Bobcats.While West Lincoln travels to face the Natchez Cathedral Green wavefor some more Regional 4-1A action. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
