Funeral services for Mary Ortego, of Simmesport, La., will takeplace at Christ the King Catholic Church of Simmesport on Tuesday,Oct. 5, 2010, beginning at 2 p.m.

Visitation was held beginning at 9 a.m. at Escude’ Funeral Home ofSimmesport prior to the funeral services. The funeral mass willbegin at 2 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with burialservices immediately following at Christ the King Mausoleum.

Mrs. Ortego, 90, passed away at St. Clare Manor Nursing Home ofBaton Rouge, La., on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010. She is preceded in deathby her husband, J. E. “Bill” Ortego; her son, Gerald Mark Ortego;her parents, James Mark and Sarah Bacon; her brothers, Ed Bacon andOllie Bacon; and her son-in-law, Don Estes.

She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Ortego Estes, ofBrookhaven, Wanda Ortego Williams and husband, Kermit Wayne, andBetty Davis, all of Baton Rouge; her sons, Murray “Buddy” Ortegoand wife, Debbie, of Brazoria, Texas, and Bart Ortego and wife,Kathryn of Lafayette, La.; and her stepsons, J. E. Peters and wife,Sally, of Boerne, Texas, and Charles Ray Peters and wife, Pat, ofRusk, Texas.

She is also survived by her 22 grandchildren, and manygreat-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces andnephews.

Mrs. Ortego was well-loved by her family and friends.
