Wesson rips Lumberton

WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras crushed the Lumberton LadyPanthers in the first round of the MHSAA Class 2A SlowpitchSoftball State Playoffs. The Cobras shut out Lumberton 12-0 in thefirst game and walloped the Panthers 14-1 in the second game.
“It was good to get the wins,” said Wesson head coach JackieJohnson. “Our girls played a very good game.”
The Cobras (10-10) resume play Saturday, hosting theEnterprise-Clarke Lady Bulldogs in the second round of theplayoffs. The best-of-three series starts at 3:30 p.m.

Jessica Delaney (3 K,0 BB) pitched the win for the Cobras.
Shortstop Macie McQuage led the Wesson hitters with a triple, adouble and a single. Mak Rials contributed two doubles and asingle. Christian Woods provided a triple and a double. Abbey Smithand Ashton Newman collected a double and a single apiece. ShauntayWalker hit a home run. Hannah Brown belted two singles. Hittingsafely were Sarah Robinson, Summer Rials and Delaney.

Second baseman Summer Rials provided the offensive spark for Wessonwith a home run, a triple and two singles. Shauntay Walkercontinued to fuel the flames with three singles. Hannah Brown, MakRials and Delaney provided two singles apiece. Macie McQuage hit ahomerun and a double. Abbey Smith belted a home run and a single.Woods collected a double and a single. The Cobras got singles fromKara Darby and Ashton Newman.
