Funeral services for Leander Hackett Sr., of Bogue Chitto, are 2p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, at Springfield Missionary Baptist Churchin Bogue Chitto, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. JamesPittman will officiate. Williams Mortuary is in charge ofarrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Hackett, 71, died Oct. 4, 2010, at Countrybrook Living Centerin Brookhaven. He was born in Pike County on April 21, 1939, toJohn Hackett and Ella Young Hackett Bell.

He was a truck driver for Air Products and Chemicals in NewOrleans, La., before his retirement. He was a member of SpringfieldM.B. Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army for 12 1/2years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and his daughter, AmandaHackett Davis.

Survivors are his wife, Bessie Redd Hackett, of Bogue Chitto; hisdaughter, Lisa Hackett, of Bogue Chitto; his sons, Leander HackettJr., of Bogue Chitto, and Gabriel (Yessenia) Hackett, of FortWorth, Texas; his sisters, Vernice Burkes, of New Orleans, GertrudeJackson, of McComb, and Geneva (Alphonse) Crossley, of Fort Worth;his grandchildren, Erik Allen II and Robert Bonds Jr., both ofBogue Chitto, and Gabriel Hackett Jr. and Yaneisha Hackett, both ofFort Worth; his stepgrandchildren, Leandus Smith and ShemeliaSmith, both of Brookhaven, and Krystal M. Wells, of McComb; andother relatives and friends.
