WESSON – It was a happy homecoming as the No. 10 ranked Co-LinWolves slugged out a 21-14 win over the No. 12 Pearl RiverWildcats. The Wolfpack (6-0, 4-0) take sole possession of firstplace in the South Division. Pearl River falls to 4-2, 3-1 in theSouth Division.

Co-Lin broke the 14-all tie with 9:24 left in the game as MontrellConner rambled 14 yards for the winning touchdown. Conner, aMississippi State transfer, finished the game with 18 carries for78 yards.

Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis was pleased with his team’sperformance. “It was a great team effort. Defensively, we played alot better in the second half. We really picked it up on offense inthe second half,” he added. “Our coaches do a great job of gettingthem going.”

The Wildcats drove the ball 79 yards in 7 plays as running backMarquis Smith plunged in from the 1-yard line. Travis Bradley addedthe extra point to put the Wildcats up 7-0 with 2:39 left in thefirst quarter. Pearl River added another score as quarterbackMelvin German hit Snoop Rollins for a 54-yard touchdown strike.Bradley’s extra point gave the Wildcats a 14-0 lead with 7:09 leftin the second quarter.

Co-Lin quarterback Percy Turner found freshman running back DannyHobbs for a 27-yard touchdown. Justin Danise added the PAT to pullthe Wolfpack to 14-7 with 3:17 left in the half.

With 11:40 left in the third quarter, Turner found a wide-openLaVoyd James for a 34-yard touchdown. Danise’s point after tied thegame at 14-all.

The Wolfpack drove the ball all the way down to the Pearl River15-yard line, but Turner’s pass was intercepted by Delvin Ervin atthe 3-yard line.

On the next play, Co-Lin’s Wesley Pendleton returned the favorintercepting a German pass at the Pearl River 28. Two plays laterConner ran the ball in from the 14-yard line to give Co-Lin a 21-14win.

“Wesley Pendleton made some great plays on defense,” Davis noted.”Our front four did a great job, too.”

The Wolfpack defense, ranked No. 1 in the state held the state’sNo. 1 ranked passing offense to 188 yards for the game. German(6-3, 190), a freshman from Fort Myers, Fla., led the state inpassing averaging 279.6 yards per game with only 1 interception.German finished the game 16-of-32 for 188 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2interceptions.

Pearl River’s Steve McNair, Jr., the state’s leading receiver, washeld to 5 catches for 21 yards. McNair, son of the late TennesseeTitan quarterback Steve McNair, was averaging 78.4 yards pergame.

The Co-Lin defense held the Wildcats to 93 yards rushing. DarylBourne was the leading rusher for the Wildcats with 5 carries for32 yards.

Co-Lin had 392 yards of total offense. Turner completed 14 passesfor 227 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He spread the ballaround and hit 8 different Wolfpack receivers. Sophomore MichaelBerry led the receivers with 3 catches for 46 yards.

Freshman Joel Davis added 7 carries for 63 yards as the Wolfpackrushed for 165 yards.

Co-Lin travels to Perkinston to take on the No. 13 rankedMississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The gamewill be broadcast at www.colinathletics.com and broadcast on WMJU104.3 FM in Brookhaven.
