BOGUE CHITTO – Senior Garrett Wallace kicked two field goals andwent three-for-three on the extra point attempts as Bogue Chittoheld off Sebastopol for a 27-24 victory Friday night in the battleof Bobcats on Troy Smith Field. Bogue Chitto (5-2, 3-0) remainedundefeated in Region 4-1A as the Bobcats scratched up 270 totalyards on offense.

“This was a great game,” said BC head coach Gareth Sartin. “Bothteams played extremely hard. Our special teams came up with somehuge plays to help us win. We received two big returns from BrandonWells on kickoffs and Garrett Wallace made two big field goals.This was a good win in this tough division and very big in makingthe playoffs.”

In the first quarter, the fans got to witness two heavyweight teamsbattle from the start as both defenses would not allow the otherteam’s offense to score.

In the second quarter, Bogue Chitto managed to break the scorelesstie as Chris Hall sprinted 27-yards for a touchdown with 9:25remaining.

Sebastopol (3-4, 1-2) answered with 4:13 remaining when JamesPatrick scored on a 7-yard run for a touchdown. Jake Loper wentthree-for-three on extra point for the night and it was 7-7.

BC’s Wallace helped his Bobcats recapture the lead as he nailed a32-yard field goal with 1:53 left to give Bogue Chitto an 10-7advantage going into halftime.

In the second half, BC running back Brandon Wells took the openingkickoff and returned it 91-yards for a touchdown with 11:47 left inthe third quarter to give his Bobcats a quick 10-point, 17-7lead.

The Sebastopol Bobcats did not panic after that score. They battledback and captured a brief lead to end the third quarter. Patrickscored on runs of 2 yards, with 6:23 remaining, and 18-yards astime expired.

In the fourth quarter, the defensive battle got more intense asboth teams used their shop class skills to grind up the clock onoffense.

James Blackwell powered his way though for an 8-yard TD with 9:03remaining to give BC the lead back with an 24-21 score.

After that score, Sebastopol kept BC’s hands full on defense for 6minutes and 15 seconds. The defense of Bogue Chitto did not falteras they rose to occasion and forced the Bobcats of Sebastopol tokick a 30-yard field goal, made by Loper, with 2:49 remaining totie the game at 24-all

Bogue Chitto was fired up as the offense fed off that intensity anddrove down the field to set up for the game winning 33-yard fieldgoal, made by Wallace, with 0:30 left on the clock.

Sebastopol tried to create some magic to spoil BC’s victory, butthe BC defense did not allow that to happen by stopping their driveas time expired.

“This was a big win for us,” said Garrett Wallace. “I would like tothank my snapper and holder for doing a good job. The line did anexcellent job holding to let me get the kick off. We have beenpracticing for this situation in every practice and we willcontinue to work on it to get better for each game.”

Defensively, linebacker Kevin Brothern led BC’s Bobcats attack with18 stops. Tevin Tobias and Lenell Bryant provided 12 tacklesapiece. Shane Lewis collected 10 tackles and a sack. JermaineBlackwell got 9 tackles and a sack. Tyler Saucier intercept a passand Tobias recovered a fumble.

Offensively, Hall led Bogue Chitto with 103 yards on 10 rushing.James Blackwell gained 66 yards on 7 attempts. Brock Robertcompleted one of eight passes for 53 yards. Michael Martin was thelone receiver, which caught the one pass for 53 yards.

Patrick led the Sebastopol Bobcats with 180 yards on 25 carries. Hethrew one pass for 18 yards and caught 4 passes for 35 yards.

“I was very proud of our effort,” said Sebastopol head coach JasonGreene. “Bogue Chitto is a good ball club. We came in and playedwith intensity. It just came down to the special teams to win thegame and Bogue Chitto took advantage of it. Our main goal as ofright now is to make the playoffs.”

Bogue Chitto will be on the road Friday to face the Mt. OlivesPirates for a key Region 4-1A test. Sebastopol returns home to hostthe Dexter Bulldogs. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
