West Lincoln runners place fifth

CLINTON – The West Lincoln Bears finished fifth Saturday in theClass 1A/2A/3A division of the Mississippi College Cross CountryMeet. The Bears were directed by senior Jay Case who placed 11th inthe 5K race. Case posted a time of 18:37.

West Lincoln scored 128 points. St. Thomas Aquinas (La.) won theteam title with 34 points and St. Andrew’s was runner-up with 68points. J.Z. George was third (112) and Sumner (La.) fourth(112).

Jared Case finished 25th for the Bears with a time of 19:54. Otherleaders were Troy Allred, 33rd in 20:40; Colton Welch, 36th in20:44; and Lucas Burris, 59th in 22:44.

West Lincoln’s junior high girls finished 11th in the 3200-meterrace that featured 156 runners. Lexis Leggett led the Lady Bearswith a time of 15:37. Anna Grace Rushing, 16:59; Micah Redd, 17:44;Brianna Fauver, 18:11; and Layton Sills, 18:53 also placed.

The WL jr. high boys were led by Matt Gill who posted a 15:07 inthe 3200-meter distance.

The WL varsity girls were paced by Courtney Carroll with a time of23:03 in the 4K race. Due to the softball state playoffs, Carrollwas the only girl available for the race.

Approximately 1,100 runners, representing 50 schools fromMississippi and Louisiana participated in the event.
