Cats shut out West Lincoln

The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats captured the South State 1AChampionship Tuesday night by sweeping the West Lincoln Lady Bearsin two shutout games in the third round of the MSHAA slowpitchsoftball State Playoffs. The Cats won the first game 4-0 andcruised to a 10-0 victory in the finale.

“Glad to be back in the State championship finals again,” said BChead coach Scott Leggett. “I am very proud of the girls. They havedone everything that I have asked them to do all season. We got onemore series to go to complete our goal.”

The Cats (24-6) will return to action Saturday traveling to Jacksonto face the North Champion Wheeler or Smithville on the V.A.Fields. Opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m., followed by the firstgame at 11.

Due to the rain, the Wheeler at Smithville game was postponed untilThursday.

The Bears (10-17) season has came to an end for slowpitch as theybattled through the playoffs and tried to defend their two-timeSouth State 1A title.

“I am very glad to see our team have a good year,” said WestLincoln head coach Andrew Redd. “This was our third year in a rowto be in South State. I wish the best of luck to Bogue Chitto inthe championship this Saturday.”

The West Lincoln and Bogue Chitto slowpitch softball teams haveplenty to be proud of because they have dominated the south 1Adivision the past seven years combined. The Cats won five South 1AState championships and the Bears won two.

BC 4, WL 0

Kerri McGehee (1K, 1BB) was the winning pitcher for the Cats.Jessica Franklin (1K, 1BB) absorbed the loss for WestLincoln.

Second baseman Bradi Davis led Bogue Chitto’s offense with a tripleand a single. Darcy Miller contributed two singles. Toy Smith andMcGehee hit a double apiece. Hitting safely were Adrienne Wallace,Rheagan Welch, Alexis Givens and Kaylie Crosby.

BC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and scored twice in thethird. The Bears committed four errors in the opener.

West Lincoln got singles from Karli Herrington, Marisa Pruski,Katie Hester, Micah Redd, Katie Mullins, Bentley Sills andFranklin.

BC 10, WL 0

McGehee (1K, 0BB) was the winning pitcher for Bogue Chitto in thesecond game. Franklin (0K, 0BB) absorbed the loss for the LadyBears who managed just three hits.

BC had 14 hits in the nightcap. Left-center fielder Darcy Millerled the Cats offensive attack with a double and two singles. MattieAvants and Wallace provided a double and a single apiece. Daviscontributed two singles. Hitting safely were Josie Porter, Welch,Smith, McGehee and Givens.

Alexis Cook, Hester and Franklin produce a single apiece to leadWest Lincoln.
