Bobcats invade Mount Olive

The Bogue Chitto Bobcats will put their undefeated Region 4-1Arecord on the line as they travel to face a tough Region opponentin the Mount Olive Pirates Friday night. The game kicks off at 7p.m.

In other games involving Lincoln County teams, Picayune invadesBrookhaven, Puckett entertains Loyd Star, and Salem visits WestLincoln.

Bogue Chitto (5-2, 3-0) provided an impressive 27-24 victory overSebastopol last week in Region 4-1A. The Bobcats, coached by GarethSartin, will face a tough Mt. Olive team.

Last week, Mt. Olive (3-4, 2-1) defeated Dexter 28-12.

Coach Sartin has watched film on the Pirates and made thesecomments.

“Mt. Olive has a very good team with some talented athletes,” saidSartin. “Our defense will have to step up and limit their offensiveplays. This is a very important Region 4-1A game and we have got toplay hard to get a win. Overall, this should be a good game and ourkids are excited about playing the state champs.”

In the win over Sebastopol, senior Garrett Wallace kicked two fieldgoals and went three-for-three on the extra point attempts for BC’sspecial teams.

Offensively, Chris Hall led Bogue Chitto with 103 rushing yards on10 carries. James Blackwell gained 66 yards on 7 attempts. BrockRoberts completed one of eight passes for 53 yards. Michael Martinwas the lone receiver, as he caught the one pass for 53yards.

Defensively, linebacker Kevin Brothern led BC’s Bobcats with 18stops. Tevin Tobias and Lenell Bryant provided 12 tackles apiece.Shane Lewis collected 10 tackles and a sack. Jermaine Blackwell got9 tackles and a sack. Tyler Saucier intercepted a pass and Tobiasrecovered a fumble.

Loyd Star (2-5, 1-1) suffered a tough 36-19 district loss to theirrival the Wesson Cobras who remained undefeated last Friday. TheHornets will have to travel to face the Puckett Wolves in anotherkey Region 6-2A contest.

Puckett (5-2, 1-1), under the direction of Jaris Patrick, wasstunned 21-14 by Madison St. Joe last week.

Loyd Star head coach Randall Huffman has watched Puckett on filmand talked about the talented Wolves.

“Puckett has a big, athletic ball club,” said Huffman. “They liketo run the ball. Overall, we had a good week in practice preparingfor them. We will have to limit our mistakes to compete withthem.”

In the loss to Wesson, Marquis Hayes led the Hornets offensiveattack with 16 rushes for 94-yards on the ground and caught onepass for 15-yards. Quarterback Korey Allen completed 2 of 8 passesfor 26-yards with 3 interceptions.

West Lincoln (0-7, 0-3) still seeking its first win of the season;fell to Natchez Cathedral 53-15 last week. The Bears, coached byChris Calcote, will host Salem for a big Region 4-1A test.

Salem (2-5, 0-4) was edged by St. Aloysius 7-6 last week.

After watching film on Salem, West Lincoln head coach Chris Calcotehad these statements about the Wildcats.

“Salem has a lot of players on their team and two very good runningbacks that can run,” said Calcote. The Wildcats are fundamentallysound on both sides on the ball.”

“We are slowly getting some of our injured players back along withbringing up some of the ninth graders to give us some depth on theteam. We are looking forward to hard-fought game.”

In the loss to Natchez Cathedral, Deon Moore was the leader forWest Lincoln’s offense as he had 18 carries for 78 yards and twotouchdown. He scored on a 85-yard kickoff return and a 4-yardplunge.
