Funeral services for Lawrence E. “Sonny” Smith, of Brookhaven,are 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Heuck’s Retreat Baptist Churchin Brookhaven, with burial in the church cemetery. Riverwood FamilyFuneral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home, andon Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of theservice.

Mr. Smith, 84, died Oct. 12, 2010, at University of MississippiMedical Center in Jackson. He was born in Mississippi on Dec. 11,1925, to Roderick D. Smith and Retha May Smith.

He was retired from the Mississippi State Health Department and asa self-employed dairy farmer. He was a veteran of the United StatesNavy and served during World War II. He was a member of Heuck’sRetreat Baptist Church in Brookhaven.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and his sisters, HildaOwens and Dorothy Bourgeois.

Survivors are his wife, Montell J. Smith; his sons, William PerrySmith, of Roanoke, Va., and Paul Maxwell Smith, of Brookhaven; hisdaughter, Suzanne S. Fuller, of Brookhaven; his grandchildren, OwenSmith, Laurel Smith, Will Smith, Ashley Pigford, Danielle Larsonand Samantha Schultz; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Building Fund orthe Benevolence Fund at Heuck’s Retreat Baptist Church, 2167Heuck’s Retreat Road NE, Brookhaven, MS 39601.
