Lady Cats Hunt Gold

The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats are looking to complete their goal inbecoming the first Lincoln County team to win gold in two differentsoftball sports in the same year.

The Cats captured their first fastpitch championship in May, sixmonths ago, beating Smithville in three games. Now, Bogue Chittohas their sights set on the slowpitch championship against theNorth State Champion Wheeler.

They will collide Saturday at the VA Fields in Jackson. The best ofthree series starts at 11 a.m.

The Cats (24-6) have been on a warpath since entering the MHSAASlowpitch State Playoffs this year. They have swept every opponent:Mt. Olive, Noxapater and West Lincoln, in two games in all threerounds. Bogue Chitto has scored a total of 69 runs to itsopponents’ 3 runs while marching to the State 1A finals.

The Cats, coached by Scott Leggett, have accomplished a lot inslowpitch softball by capturing their fifth South State 1Achampionship in seven years. The last time the Cats made it toJackson for the slowpitch championship, they won it all in 2007 andput an stamp on an amazing four-peat, winning South State 1AChampionships from 2004 through 2007.

The BC softball team of 2010 includes four seniors: Darcy Miller,Josie Porter, Bradi Davis and Toy Smith; juniors: Kaylie Crosby andHeather Miller; Sophomores: Rheagan Welch, Kerri McGehee, AdrienneWallace, Haley Estess, Lauren Wallace and Shelby Crosby; freshmen:Mattie Avants, Alexis Givens, Lauren Watts and MarshonikiqueBlackwell; eighth graders: Daley Robert, Mallory Allen and ColbyKirkland; and seventh graders: Christian Black, Alana Nettles,Zariah Matthews, Kacey Leggett and Brooke Myers.

The starting lineup for BC and their batting averages in thisSaturday’s matchup will be Mattie Avants (.378) at right-centerfield, Adrienne Wallace (.436) at left field, Josie Porter (.458)at shortstop, Darcy Miller (.427) at left-center field, Bradi Davis(.404) at second base, Rheagan Welch (.367) at third base, ToySmith (.321) at catcher, Kerri McGehee (.333) at pitcher, AlexisGivens (.288) at first base and Kaylie Crosby (.222) at rightfield.
