8-0 Wesson Cobras trample Enterprise

WESSON — Enterprise was hosted by undefeated Wesson in StoneStadium Friday night in a Region 6-2A matchup as both teams werewinners in high-scoring games the previous week. The Cobras wouldprove again that they could put points on the scoreboard as theyromped to a 46-0 triumph.
Wesson raised its record to 8-0 on the season and 3-0 in theregion. Enterprise, coached by Josh Garrett, was coming off a bigregion win over Hinds AHS and fell to 2-5 and 1-2.
Wesson junior running back Steve Jones needed just one one play toscore a 63-yard touchdown. The 2-point run was good and Wesson led8-0 with 4:36 left in the first quarter.
Enterprise took the ball on its 27 after a Brad Prather kickoffreturn. On the fourth play of the drive, Jacket senior quarterbackGarrett Greer was picked off by Wesson’s D.J. Coleman onEnterprise’s 45 yard line. Jones would take it to the house on thefirst play for a 45 yard touchdown.
The 2-point conversion run was good by Gage Wilson and Wesson led16-0 with 2:56 left in the quarter.
After another Prather return and a Cody White punt, Wesson took theball over on its own 32-yard line. On the fourth play of the drive,quarterback Matt Smith ran 56 yards for a touchdown. The 2 pointconversion was good and Wesson led 24-0 with 11:21 left in thehalf.
After Enterprise was forced to punt, Wesson would take over atEnterprise’s 37 yard line following a Coleman return. Wessonwouldn’t have to wait long for its next score as Jones took it topaydirt on the second play to give him his third touchdown of thenight. The extra point try was no good and Wesson led 30-0 with9:01 left in the half.
The Cobras would get one more score before the half ended asWesson’s defense forced a punt. Coleman would climax a 5-play drivewith an 11-yard touchdown run. The extra point was good by MattSmith and Wesson led 37-0 with 2:52 left in the half.
Wesson senior Kyle Cross who has been out since the first week of the season with an injury, raced 29 yards to the end zone. The extrapoint by Smith was good and Wesson led 44-0 with 3:30 left in thethird quarter.
Wesson’s Ryan Spear blocked an Enterprise punt that rolled out ofthe end zone for a safety in the fourth quarter with 9:10 left tomake the final score 46-0.
Wesson head coach Tommy Clopton said, “Our defense controlled thewhole game through.”
Wesson held Enterprise to its first shutout this season.
Wesson was powered by Jones who had 6 carries for 154 yards and 3touchdowns. Smith had 5 carries for 80 yards and a touchdown. JacobFischer had 2 carries for 41 yards. K Cross had 1 carry for 29yards and a touchdown. Coleman had 3 carries for 16 yards and atouchdown.
Defensively, Wesson was led by Barron Miller’s 7 tackles. PaytonCupit had 5 tackles. Coleman had 2 tackles and an interception.Paxton Cupit had a fumble recovery.
Enterprise was led on offense by Greer who had10 rushes for 26yards.
Defensively, the Jackets were led by Taylor Rutland’s 7 tackles.Jedd Moak 6 tackles, and Tony Blair 5 tackles.
Wesson takes on Madison St. Joe (6-3, 2-1) in Madison. Enterprisevisits Loyd Star (2-6, 1-2).
