While pundits and politicians debate the current economy and thefuture, this community can look forward to one bright spot on thehorizon.
That will come when Rex Lumber Company starts up next year.
Speaking this past week to the Brookhaven Kiwanis Club, GeneralManager Doug Boykin said the company expects to be in production inMarch. With it will come the return of more than 100 jobs that werelost when Columbus Lumber Company shut down last year.
“For us to be able to bring back 110 of those jobs is going to begreat,” Boykin said.
Not only will the jobs be great for Rex, but also the Brookhavenand Lincoln County community. With Rex’s purchase of the formerColumbus property, this community is seeing a negative turn into apositive.
Nationally, most economic news of late has been at best a mixed bagof positive and negative reports on the outlook for recovery. Onthe local front, Rex’s plans provide a definite positive to lookforward to in the new year.
