Junior quarterback KeUndrae Williams completed three passes onthree attempts for 91 yards and two touchdown while rushing fourtimes for 30 yards to help Salem capture their first district win38-12 over the West Lincoln Bears Friday night on Perry MillerField in Region 4-1A action.

The Salem Wildcats clawed their way to a total of 352 yards onoffense for the game.

“Glad to get the win,” said Salem head coach Perry Coggin. “I wasglad to see our kids were ready to play. We are a young team andstill have a lot of improving to do to get back where we need tobe.”

Salem (3-5, 1-4) played hard and outmanned the Bears to set thetone early in game, scoring 30 of their 38 points in the firsthalf. The Wildcats then coasted in the second half, allowing theiryounger players to see some action.

Senior running back Justin Lewis was first to put Salem on thescoreboard as he plowed through for an 8-yard touchdown with 7:46remaining in the first quarter. The Wildcats converted on atwo-point conversion as Lewis ran it in.

Salem was successful on four out of five times on two-pointattempts for the night. Zack Bacot cashed in two runs for twopoints for Salem.

James Benjamin scored the Wildcats’ second touchdown on an 18-yardsprint with 3:40 left in the first quarter.

Starting the second quarter, Williams hooked up with Blake Loup foran 48-yard touchdown strike with 11:24 remaining. Williams threwthe Wildcats’ final touchdown of the half as L.B. Bullock took thereception 28 yards to paydirt with 3:06 remaining.

Salem took a comfortable 30-0 lead into halftime over WestLincoln.

In the second half, the Bears managed to fight their way through toget on the scoreboard as Deon Moore sprinted 30 yards for atouchdown with 6:02 remaining in the third quarter.

Salem scored their final touchdown of the game in the fourthquarter when Cameron Robinson managed to scramble his way throughfor a 4-yard TD with 10:46 remaining. Bullock ran in the two-pointconversion.

West Lincoln (0-8, 0-4) answered back with their final touchdown ofthe game as Moore rushed for a 25-yard TD with 0:55 left in thefourth quarter.

“Salem has a very good ball team,” said West Lincoln head coachChris Calcote. “They showed a lot of class tonight. We managed toplay very well tonight and our kids fought hard the wholegame.”

Defensively, Jonathan Smith and Jeremy Laird led the Bears withnine tackles apiece. Hunter Fauver provided five stops. AlstonBozeman and Austin Phelps contributed four tackles apiece.

Moore led West Lincoln’s offense with 18 carries for 126 yards andtwo TDs. Jonah King completed 6 of 11 passes for 102 yards. TrevionKing was the leading receiver with three catches for 59 yards.Fauver caught three passes for 43 yards.
