WESSON – Co-Lin is in the state playoffs and the NortheastCommunity College Tigers are on the bubble. Both teams need a winThursday night as they close out their regular seasons inBooneville. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Co-Lin makes the 4.5-hour haul to Booneville, departing Wednesdaymorning. The Wolfpack, 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the South Division,needs a victory to assure themselves of the home field advantagefor the opening round of the state playoffs that begin Nov. 13. Itall hinges on Gulf Coast losing to Hinds Saturday. Gulf Coast andPearl River both are 4-1 in the South.

Northwest (8-0, 5-0) and Itawamba (5-3, 4-1) stand 1-2 in the NorthDivision and meet in the season finale. Northeast (5-3, 4-2), freshfrom a 20-17 loss to archrival Itawamba, must win tomorrownight.

Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis said his team faces a difficult roadtest. “Northeast is pretty doggone good. They are still trying towin to get in and we need it to try and be the No. 1 seed so we canplay at home.”

Pearl River hosts Jones County and Gulf Coast visits Hinds Saturdayfor South Division season finales.

“I know our players would love to be at home,” said Davis. “Itdepends on how we handle success.”

Co-Lin is coming off a hard-fought 42-35 home victory against EastCentral. The Pack ranks No. 1 in total defense, allowing 267.4yards per game.

Davis said Northeast will test Co-Lin’s ability to stop the rush.”Offensively, they run the heck out of the football. Their runningback, Jaquise Cook, runs the ball really hard. He was NationalPlayer of the Week early in the season.”

Cook (5-9, 205, so.), from Ripley, has rushed for 779 yards and 10touchdowns this season.

Clint Wilson (6-0, 200, so.) of Olive Branch works at quarterback.He’s completed 72 of 146 passes for 883 yards and 5touchdowns.

Davis said the Tigers boast an exceptional wideout in Josh Jariboe(6-3, 204, so.) from Atlanta, Ga. He transferred from Oklahoma toTroy State and then moved to Northeast. Jariboe has caught 36passes for 432 yards and 2 TDs.

The Tigers have good size up front and Davis said, “They playextremely hard. We will have our work cut out for us. It’s hard towin on the road.”

On defense, the Tigers are big. Their secondary is very good.Brynden Trawick (6-3, 210, so.) of Atlanta stars at safety.

Co-Lin Survives Test

The Pack managed to hold off a determined East Central squad lastThursday night in Stone Stadium as Dehendret Collins interceptedtwo passes and Montrell Conner rushed 32 times for 127 yards andtwo TDs. Quarterback Percy Turner completed 11 of 18 passes for 156yards and 3 TDs.

Co-Lin wide receiver Michael Berry caught 2 TD pass and. FredFuller caught 5 passes for 87 yards and 1 TD.

On the season, Turner has completed 106 of 196 passes for 1,348yards and 17 TDs. Fuller has 29 catches for 437 yards and 4TDs.

On defense, free safety Calvin Jones has accounted for 78 tackles,including 45 solo stops. Jordan Hunt has 61 tackles and JamesCatchings 73.

Wolf Tails: Co-Lin hasn’t played Northeast since Sept. 9, 2004,when the Tigers roared 45-14 at Booneville. The 2005 game wascancelled due to Hurricane Katrina.
