BA Cougars take 9-1 mark on road

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars are gearing up for the stateplayoffs as they conclude their regular season on the road visitingFranklinton, La. to face the Bowling Green Buccaneers. Kickoff is 7p.m.

In area academy action, Copiah invades Oak Forest (La.) and JacksonPrep entertains Parklane.

Brookhaven Academy (9-1, 3-0) came out of the gates early andhammered the Columbia Academy Cougars for a 45-21 victory to clinchthe District 4-AA title.

The BA Cougars, coached by Herbert Davis, expect a battle against atough Bowling Green team. The Bucs (3-6, 1-2) cruised to a 45-8crushing of Amite School last week.

“Bowling Green is a tough and physical team,” said Davis. “Theystarted the season running a spread offense, but now they are goingwith the power offense.

“The Bucs are starting to become a rivalry game,” continued Davis.”So they will be fired up and ready to play us. Hopefully, we cansharpen up our skills in this game and get ready for theplayoffs.”

In the win over Columbia Academy, Chandler Rogers led theBrookhaven offense, completing 12 of his 19 pass attempts for 240yards and two touchdowns in two quarters of play. Gage Posey tookover in the second half and completed 6 of his 12 pass attempts for90 yards. He also picked up 85 yards on 8 carries and a touchdown.Landon Nettles had 9 carries for 63 yards and two touchdowns.

Bubba Keene was the leading receiver with 6 receptions for 130yards and two scores. Sidney Chaffin caught 4 passes for117-yards.

On defense, C.J. Duckworth led Brookhaven with 12 tackles. HunterFranklin and Bailey Hodge each registered 11 stops. Alan MichaelAllred made 10 stops. Posey had two interceptions.

Parklane (5-4, 1-3) wraps up its final game of the regular seasonFriday night, traveling to Jackson Prep in a AAA matchup. Coach BoMilton’s Pioneers were eliminated from playoff contention afterlosing 28-14 to Presbyterian Christian School last week. The winlifted the Bobcats (8-2, 3-1) into postseason play.

Jackson Prep is 8-2 overall and 4-0 in district play.

In the loss to PCS, sophomore running back Joseph Clark led thePioneers’ rushing attack with 69 yards on 20 touches. Seniorrunning back Jack Kitaif added 43 yards and a touchdown on eightattempts.

Copiah Academy (3-6, 1-3) suffered a tough 28-14 defeat last Fridayby East Rankin. The Colonels, coached by Scotty Cline, will betraveling to Amite, La. to face Oak Forest for their final regularseason game.

Oak Forest (7-3, 2-2) fell to Jackson Prep 24-14 last week.
