BOONEVILLE – The Co-Lin defense has come up with big plays allseason. Last night was no exception as they led the Wolfpack to a23-3 win in the final regular season game for both teams. TheWolfpack (8-1, 5-1) will await outcome of the Gulf Coast-Hinds andthe Pearl River-Jones County games on Saturday to determine if theywin the South Division title or come in second.

“This was a big win for us,” said Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis. “Iam very proud of the guys and the coaches for doing a great job.Our kids have worked hard all season and they have bought into ourgame schemes. Northeast played a tremendous game as they had a loton the line to play for as well.”

The long drive to Booneville didn’t seem to bother the Co-Lindefense as they caused four Northeast turnovers.

After a scoreless first quarter, Montrell Conner put Co-Lin on thescoreboard first with a 2-yard touchdown run with 14:27 left in thehalf. Justin Danise added the PAT and the Wolfpack took a 7-0lead.

Northeast drove the ball down to the Co-Lin 8-yard line, but WesleyPendleton intercepted the Bruce Steele pass on the goal linesnuffing out the drive with 10:23 remaining in the half.

With 2:37 remaining in the half, Sterling Thompson recovered afumble at the Northeast 18 and the Wolfpack looked to be inbusiness. The drive stalled and the 25-yard field goal attempt byDanise went wide left.

On the next possession, the Tigers took over and looked to mountinga drive before halftime. With 13.9 seconds left in the half, Co-Lindefensive back Dehendret Collins picked off his fifth pass of theyear to end the drive.

The Wolves increased their lead to 14-0 on a 4-yard run by freshmanJoel Davis with 7:01 left in the third quarter. Danise added thePAT. Davis, a freshman from Natchez, had his best game of the yearfinishing with 29 carries for 164 yards and two touchdowns.

A Percy Turner fumble at the Co-Lin 11 gave the Tigers their bestfield position of the game. After a 5-yard procedure penalty and a7-yard sack by defensive lineman Bo Tillman, the Tigers wouldsettle for a 38-yard field goal by Taylor Earhart with 9 secondsleft in the third quarter.

After driving the ball into Co-Lin territory, the Tiger drive wouldstall. On fourth down, Northeast punter Stevie Davis faked a puntand tried a pass to Macerell Hickinbottom that was broken up bygunner Dequavious Cobb and punt returner Fred Fuller.

On their next possession, the Wolfpack drove the ball deep intoNortheast territory, but the Tiger defense would stiffen. Danisewould hit on a 24-yard field goal to increase the Wolfpack lead to17-3 with 7:17 remaining in the game.

Co-Lin’s final score came on a Davis 56-yard scamper with 1:07 leftin the game. Danise’s kick failed.

Percy Turner completed 8 of 15 passes for 107 yards. Turner rushed7 times for 40 yards. Fred Fuller had 7 catches for 104yards.

If Gulf Coast (6-2, 4-1) and Pearl River (5-3, 4-1) post wins onSaturday, that sets up a three-way tie for the division title. Allthree teams will have an identical 5-1 division record. Thetie-breaking system gets extremely complicated after that. Thesecond tiebreaker is the head-to-head matchup between the teams.The Wolfpack defeated Pearl River, Pearl River defeated Gulf Coast,and Gulf Coast defeated Co-Lin, resulting in another tie. The thirdtiebreaker is the overall records of the three teams. The Wolfpack(8-1, 5-1) would then win the South Division title and host the No.2 team out of the North Division, which is still yet to bedetermined, on Saturday, Nov. 6.

A Gulf Coast loss at Hinds automatically gives the Wolfpack thetitle and a Pearl River win would put the Wildcats as the No. 2seed. A Pearl River loss and a Gulf Coast win would give Gulf Coastthe title and the Wolfpack would be the No. 2 seed.
