BOGUE CHITTO – Freshman quarterback Brock Roberts was a perfectfour-for-four on the night in passing and collected 104 yards fortwo touchdowns. He also rushed for 24 yards on 4 carries as BogueChitto came from behind to claim a 47-20 homecoming victory overthe Salem Wildcats Friday night on Troy Smith Field. The Bobcatsscratched up 410 total yards on offense as they fought to stayalive in the Region 4-1A playoff hunt.

“Glad to get the win,” said BC head coach Gareth Sartin. “We cameout flat in the first quarter and Salem put it to us. We finallywoke up and started to play in the second quarter which helped usget the victory.”

Salem (3-6, 1-4) came out playing smash-mouth football early to setthe tone, The Wildcats scored on the their opening drive whensenior running back Justin Lewis punch through for a 1-yardtouchdown with 4:11 remaining in the first quarter. The Wildcatsconverted on one of three 2-point conversion as Khiry Smith ran inthe only two points.

The Bobcats (6-4, 4-2) quickly answered as they drove down thefield only using three plays to score as Germie Martin caught a41-yard touchdown pass from Brock Roberts with 2:19 remaining inthe first quarter. Salem led BC 8-6 at the end of thequarter.

The Wildcats returned the challenge by scoring on their nextpossession as Blake Loup caught a 25-yard pass from KeUndraeWilliams for the touchdown with 10:18 remaining in the secondquarter.

On the ensuing kickoff, Salem’s A.J. Robinson recovered a Bobcatsfumble. The Wildcats managed to cash in the turnover as Khiry Smithplowed through for a 4-yard touchdown with 7:23 remaining in thesecond quarter.

The Bobcats’ defense stepped up their game after that touchdown anddid not allow Salem to score the rest of the game. The offense ofBogue Chitto got things going and rallied; scoring 41 unansweredpoints.

Fullback Robert Bonds started the charge for BC scoring on a 2-yardrun with 6:20 left in the second quarter.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Bobcats provided an early trick onSalem as they recovered an onside kick and later got a treat asColton McClendon scored on a 20-yard run with 5:15 remaining in thesecond quarter.

Bogue Chitto captured the lead from the Wildcats with 1:11 left inthe first half. Sophomore Brandon Wells sprinted 47-yards topaydirt. The Bobcats converted on one of three 2-point conversionas James Blackwell cashed in the only two-points. BC led athalftime 26-20 over the Wildcats.

In the second half, the Bobcats returned to business after enjoyingsome of the halftime homecoming festivities to see Wells march infrom 47-yards out for the touchdown with 9:31 remaining in thethird quarter. Garrett Wallace went three-for-four on extra pointkicks for the night.

Roberts continued BC’s scoring spree as he managed to hook up withGermie Martin once again for 20-yard touchdown reception with 1:22remaining in the third quarter.

Bogue Chitto put the final touches on their scoring rage in thefourth quarter as Jimmy McNulty rushed 30 yards for the touchdownwith 3:10 remaining.

The Bobcats will be on the road Friday for their final regularseason game against the Dexter Bulldogs in an important 4-1Amatchup to determine the third and fourth seeding for theplayoffs.

“We look like we were two different type of teams between the firstand second halves,” said Salem head coach Perry Coggins. “BogueChitto did a great job coming back and pop us in the mouth. We didnot respond.”

Defensively, Kevin Brothern led the Bobcats with 15 tackles.Jermaine Blackwell provided 11 stops. Tevin Tobias collected 9tackles, one sack and intercepted a pass. Martin recovered afumble.

McClendon added some assistance to help lead the Bogue Chittooffensive with 115 yards on 7 carriers. Wells provided help with 2rushes for 92 yards. Martin led all receivers with 4 catches for 98yards.

Williams led the Wildcats’ offense completing 3 of 4 passes for 57yards and one interception. Robinson led the ground attack with 7carries for 43 yards.

Defensive, James Benjamin led Salem with 8 tackles. Jesse Longcontributed 6 stops.
