Loyd Star shuts out Hinds AHS

Loyd Star’s senior players celebrated their last season homegame with a 42-0 Friday night victory over the Hinds AHS Bulldogs.Marquis Sims led the Hornet offense with 11 rushes for 63 yards andtwo touchdowns. Sims also had a 24-yard reception.
Loyd Star coach Randall Huffman said he was pleased with his team’seffort. “We are trying to be consistent with wins. Last week we hada big win and tried to come out and earn another one. It was a bigwin for the guys, especially for my seniors on Senior Night.
“We have to come back Monday ready to go to work,” he continued.”We are privileged to still be in it and have one more week aheadof us. I am glad to be where we are at. We made the playoffs andthat’s what we play for.”
The Hornets are 4-6 on the season and 3-2 in Region 6-2A. They willbe on the road Friday night for the first round of theplayoffs.
Senior Marquis Hayes followed closely with 7 carries for 55 yardsand 2 touchdowns. Korey Allen had a total of 35 yards in 3 carries.Josh Butler got the ball twice for 15 yards.
In the second half, Jamie Archer had 12 yards on 4 carries.Dyquavius Thomas had 8 yards with 2 carries and 1 touchdown. Thomaslaid a big hit on the Bulldog punter, leading up to Cody Teekelrecovering a fumble and returning it for a touchdown.
Senior quarterback Korey Allen was perfect on the night with twopasses and two completions for 29 yards. Sims had one reception,and Cori Crowe had a 5-yard reception.
The Hornet defense proved strong and earned their first shutoutvictory. Teekel led the Hornets with 4 tackles, and 1 fumblerecovery for a touchdown. Logan Smith had 5 tackles. Marquis Simshad 4 tackles for the Hornet defense.
Hayes had a big defensive night with 1 sack and 2 interceptions.Teammate Rictavious Butler had 2 interceptions. Korey Allen had 1interception. Josh Butler had 3 tackles, along with Cody Lanham andJamie Archer. The Hornet Special teams were strong throughout thenight for Loyd Star. Crowe was 6-for-6 on PATs. Korey Allen placeda punt inside the 15-yard line, and the special teams never gave upa big return.
“Our special teams was strong and did very well tonight,” saidCoach Huffman.
Hinds AHS was led offensively by Aaron Terrell who had 12 carriesfor 35 yards. Following closely was DeAndre Selman with 33 yardswith 8 carries.
Bulldog quarterback Aaron Terrell was 3-for-11 for 28 yards, and 5interceptions. Jerry Smith had 2 receptions for 25 yards.
The Bulldog defense was led by Tyshun Tittle with 6 tackles. MarioNoel and Zaveon Branch had 4 tackles apiece.
The Bulldogs (1-9, 0-5) finish last in the region.
