The Loyd Star Hornets travel to play the Union Yellow Jacketsfor the first round of the Class 2A state football playoffs Fridaynight. The kickoff is 7 p.m.

In the final regular season games for Lincoln County teams,Brookhaven visits Forest Hill, Bogue Chitto invades Dexter and Mt.Olive entertains West Lincoln.

The Enterprise Yellow Jackets (3-7, 1-4) finished their season lastFriday night.

Loyd Star (4-6, 3-2) secured third place in Region 6-2A with a 42-0shutout win over the Hind AHS War Dawgs in the final region game ofthe regular season. Union (5-6) claim second place in Region 7-2Aafter defeating Pisgah 35-21 to advance.

Loyd Star head coach Randal Huffman talked with several coachesabout the Union Yellow Jackets.

“Union has a big and physical team,” said Huffman. “We match upwell with each other. Our guys had a good week in practice and theyare looking forward to playing them.”

Key Personnel for Loyd Star: Marquis Hayes leads all rushers with109 carries for 726 yards. Marquis Sims has 438 yards. QuarterbackKorey Allen has completed 20 of 41 for 225 yards.

Key Players for Union: Quarterback Chance Lowery, running backForzetra Ealy and Wide receiver Trey Bogan. On Defense, JeremyBrazzle, Kyle Adkins, and Jessie Gill directs the Jackets.

In the shutout win over Hind AHS, Marquis Sims led the Hornetoffense with 11 rushes for 63 yards and two touchdowns. He also hada 24-yard reception. Hayes followed closely with 7 carries for 55yards and 2 touchdowns. Allen was perfect on the night with twopasses and two completions for 29 yards.

Defensively, Loyd Star proved strong and earned their first shutoutvictory. Cody Teekel led the Hornets with 4 tackles, and 1 fumblerecovery for a touchdown. Logan Smith had 5 tackles. Marquis Simshad 4 tackles for the Hornet defense.

Hayes had a big defensive night with 1 sack and 2 interceptions.Teammate Rictavious Butler had 2 interceptions. Allen had 1interception. Josh Butler had 3 tackles, along with Cody Lanham andJamie Archer.

Bogue Chitto (6-4, 4-2) coached by Gareth Sartin, posted a 47-20homecoming win over Region 4-1A foe Salem Friday night. The Bobcatsmust face region foe Dexter Friday in another must-winsituation.

Dexter (5-5, 4-2) is coming off a 26-6 crushing victory over theNatchez Cathedral Green Wave last Friday. The win help boost theBulldogs into playoff contention.

“Dexter is loaded with very talented athletes,” said Sartin. “Theirquarterback does a good job for them by running and throwing theball. We are looking forward to a tough, physical ball game. Bothteams are fighting for a playoff spot.”

In the win over Salem, BC freshman quarterback Brock Roberts was aperfect four-for-four on the night in passing and collected 104yards for two touchdowns. He also rushed for 24 yards on 4 carries.Colton McClendon added some assistance with 115 yards on 7carriers. Brandon Wells provided help with 2 rushes for 92 yards.Germie Martin led all receivers with 4 catches for 98 yards.

Defensively, Kevin Brothern led the Bobcats with 15 tackles.Jermaine Blackwell provided 11 stops. Tevin Tobias collected 9tackles, one sack and intercepted a pass. Martin recovered afumble.

West Lincoln (0-10, 0-6) suffered a tough 40-12 beating at thehands of Region 4-1A foe St. Aloysius last week. The Bears, coachedby Chris Calcote, visit Mt. Olive for the final game of the regularseason.

Mt. Olive (8-5, 5-1) crushed Sebastopol 46-14 last week in a bigregion matchup.

“Mt. Olive has a very good team,” said Calcote. “They have one ofthe best running backs that I have seen this year. This will be ahuge challenge for us.”

In the loss to St. Al, West Lincoln was led by Deon Moore with 154rushing yards on 25 carries. Alston Bozeman provided 107 yards on12 carries.

Defensively, Jeremy Laird led the Bears with 9 tackles. JonathanSmith provided 9 stops.
