Parties must learn lesson to avoid gridlock

With two historic elections in a two-year period, if the powersthat be in Washington have now not gotten the message, they will in2012. More gridlock resulting in no jobs, a continual stagnanteconomy and no solution to our deficit spending will result in yetanother shellacking, one that will likely clean out both Democratand Republican parties as well as the country.

Frustrated by Bush era spending of which both Republicans andDemocrats alike were to blame, voters were wooed by a message ofchange from a smooth talking politician from Illinois who usheredin a more liberal America ideal that turned conventional wisdom onits head. Entrepreneurship and private business became bad andgovernmental wisdom and control became good. Some call itsocialism.

Twenty-four months later an even more frustrated electorate decidedto change things again. The result, Republicans again control theHouse of Representative and Democrats continue to control theSenate, albeit by a smaller margin.

Democrats still have the ability to control the national agenda andhave the ability to block anything Republicans might want topropose, despite the best intentions of the Tea Party movement. Thus we are likely to see gridlock like never before.

But one has to wonder the mood of Democrats still dazed by theresults of Tuesday’s election.

Can they afford to not bend with Republican ideas? For refusal willonly result in gridlock and the wrath of voters in 2012.

Then again, Republicans have to play their cards correctly too, forany perception of over playing for political chips could result ina voter backlash in 2012 that could be worse than 2008. Hopefullythey have been schooled in the errors of the Gingrich years.

Republicans have been given a second chance. However they face inPresident Obama a very shrewd politician who despite being humbledlast week still intends to leave his imprint on the country.

The die will be cast for the 2012 elections over the next 18months.

Our recommendation to the leadership of both parties is that in2011, find a way reduce the national debt, instill a feeling ofconfidence and security in the American people and the rest willtake care of itself.
