BHS kickers divide with Loyd Star

Midfielder Amy Hoover scored four goals in leading theBrookhaven Lady Panhers to a 4-0 shutout win against Loyd Star’sLady Hornets at the Hansel King Sportsplex Monday night. EmilyFreeman posted the shutout, making four saves in the seasonopener.

In the varsity boys game, Loyd Star posted a 2-1 victory as ChanceHolden and Taylor Jones scored for the Hornets. The Panthers got agoal from forward Zach Cannon.

Happy Uppal worked as goalie for BHS. Neither team scored in thesecond half as Uppal made 5 saves.

Sawyer Hudson served a Loyd Star’s goalie and made 9 saves.

“Loyd Star pretty much outplayed and outhustled us,” said BHS coachKevin Bower. “We didn’t do a good job on defense.”

The Panthers host North Pike Thursday, starting with a JV girlsgame at 5 p.m., at the Sportsplex.

Loyd Star hosts Lawrence County, starting with the varsity girls at5:30 and the varsity boys at 7.

In the girls junior varsity match, Brookhaven defeated Loyd Star4-1. The Lady Panthers got two goals each from Samantha Junkin andTaylor Murray.
