You better watch out and you better look twice the next timeyou’re browsing the library for a good read because one could findhimself tangled up in tinsel and Christmas ornaments at theLincoln-Lawrence-Franklin Regional Library.

‘Tis the season for local organizations, clubs, schools,businesses, church groups and individuals to participate in thelibrary’s 2010 Christmas Tree Village.

“I love the village because it helps lighten people’s spiritsand gets them in the holiday mood,” said Donna Kenney, coordinatorof Children’s Services at the library.

Those looking to spread a little Christmas cheer around thelibrary need to fill out a small form, have their tree up anddecorated by Dec. 2, fasten on any valuable ornaments and keep inmind the limited amount of space for electrical outlets.

“We don’t want people tripping over wires,” said Kenney.

The event, which started in 2004, displayed 10 trees last yearall over the library and Kenney hopes to see more participationthis year.

She added that a lot of the regular participants will have treeson display, including Brookhaven Animal Rescue League, LincolnCounty Master Gardeners and the Brookhaven Blossoms, who havealready staked claim to their spot in the library.

“It’s been great fun being up there every year,” said LindaTucker, Queen Mother of the Brookhaven Blossoms. “The library looksbeautiful when the tress are done.”

Kenney said there will be all sorts of trees to look at. Shementioned live trees, tabletop trees and themed trees, for example,the “Wizard of Oz” themed tree from the Brookhaven Little Theatrelast year.

“The children love to come in and look at the themed trees,”said Kenney. “They’re the most interesting.”

Kenney also mentioned that those decorating a tree can use themeeting room in the library to host a Christmas tree decoratingparty. She asked that those hoping to use the room call first tocheck for availability.

The event also helps usher in the holiday season along with theChristmas parade, which begins on the same day most of the treeswill be on display in the library.

Kenney added that the library can be a great place to camp outwhile waiting for the parade to start.

“Stay warm until you have to go outside, and look at theChristmas trees,” said Kenney.

Kenney thinks the village is not only a way to promote Christmascheer and holiday spirit, but is one more way that Brookhavenresidents can draw closer together.

“It’s a way to get the community involved in the library,” saidKenney. “It allows us to promote community involvement.”
