Funeral services for Shirley Jean Lawson, of Sontag, were heldat 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, at Wanilla Baptist Church inWanilla, with burial in the church cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home inMonticello was in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation was held Friday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Lawson, 79, died Nov. 8, 2010, at Lawrence County Hospital inMonticello. She was born in East Cleveland, Ohio, on Oct. 19, 1931,to Louis Alton Pennington and Ethel Marline Washburn.

She was retired from her work as a dorm mother at Copiah-LincolnCommunity College in Wesson. She was a member of Wanilla BaptistChurch. She was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John KendickLawson III; her sister, Delores Pennington; and a grandchild.

She is survived by her son, John Kendick Lawson IV, of Washington,Penn.; her daughters, Janie Kae Burgard of Rocky Point, N.C., KarenAnn Daughtery of Washington, Penn., Laura Marie Benik of Tulsa,Okla., and Mary Bridgette McLean of Wilmington, N.C.; her brothers,Eddie Pennington of Hattiesburg, and Glenn (Duckey) Pennington ofPrentiss; and 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue League or the WanillaBaptist Church Cemetery Fund.
