Julia C. Burns

Miss Julia Burns, age 96, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 22,2010. She was born at home in Walthall County, Dec. 5, 1913, toAnnie and Clifton Burns.

Julia attended Draughon’s Business College in Jackson. She joinedSt. Paul Insurance Company in 1946 and retired after 33 years. Sheloved to talk about her time there and all the friends shemade.

Always a scholar, she was an avid researcher in her family’sgenealogy. At 96, she could instantly recall detailed connectionsgoing back several generations. European history was another of herpassions.

Her sense of humor has always been a strong and endearingcharacteristic. Until her last month of life, she loved tellingstories of tricks the children played on each other. Julia couldfind something in almost every situation that made a good story andbrought a laugh. She said there had been difficult parts in herlife but that she tried to put those behind her.

In 2007 she moved from Jackson to Trace Pointe Assisted Living inClinton. Giving up her independence was difficult. As with otherchanges in her life, she accepted it with grace and madefriends.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Jackson and adedicated Christian. She stated that the best part about her laterstage in life was that she was getting closer and closer to theLord.

Julia is survived by her sisters Ann Bayley of Jackson and GraceMeacham of Suffolk, Va.; nieces, Bonnie Dunn (Bob), TerryKillingsworth, Alice Mason and Jane Bonner; nephews, Luther, Donand Dwayne Burns, Robert Bayley, Michael and Jackie Coleman, andDavid and Curtis Meacham.

She will be so missed by all who love her.

Visitation will be held at Riverwood Family Funeral Service Chapelin Brookhaven at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 30, with the service tofollow at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be at Pleasant HillChurch Cemetery, on Highway 583 South.
