Bears sweep Loyd Star

The West Lincoln Lady Bears (4-4) rallied in the third quarterto capture the lead and held on for a 53-44 victory over the LoydStar Lady Hornets (0-8) Tuesday night in Jack Case Gymnasium.

In varsity boys’ action, West Lincoln (8-0) had five players toscore in double figures as the Bears remained undefeated andcruised to an 82-58 win over the Loyd Star Hornets (1-5).

The Bears and Lady Bears return to action Thursday hosting atwo-day tournament, which will conclude Saturday, featuring teamsfrom Bogue Chitto, Salem and Dexter. West Lincoln will face theSalem Wildcats Thursdays with the girls’ game tipping off at 7p.m., followed by the boys. Bogue Chitto will battle the Dextergirls at 4 p.m., followed by the boys.

W. Lincoln 53, Loyd Star 44

Senior point guard Karli Herrington pumped in a career-high 20points and grabbed 5 rebounds to lead the Lady Bears. She alsocollected two steals and two assists. Katie Hester provided a hotshooting hand with 15 points. Senior forward Katie Mullinscontribute a double-double for West Lincoln as she netted 13 pointsand crashed the boards for 10 rebounds.

“We shot the ball a lot better tonight,” said West Lincoln coachLane Young. “Both teams played extremely hard. We played with a lotof aggression tonight. Our defense in the second half was thedifference maker for the game.”

Junior center Tyrisha Patterson was the leading scorer for the LadyHornets with 20 points. She also led the boards with 12 reboundsand had two assists before fouling out.

“We just need to keep on working hard to improve to get better,”said Loyd Star coach Billy Vaughn. “We are not happy being0-8.”

W. Lincoln 82, Loyd Star 58

Senior guard Jay Case pumped in a game-high 24 points, five stealsand three assist to lead the Bears. De Price netted 17 points andcollected 6 rebounds. Lucas Burris provided a double-double with 11points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jared Case had 11 points. CalvinKees chipped in with 10 points and snatched 7 rebounds.

“We played well in spurts,” said Young, “It was good to geteveryone some playing time. We will need a better effort comeThursday.”

The Bears led 48-27 at halftime.

Junior forward Terion Williams netted 16 point and grabbed fiverebounds to lead the Hornets. Senior post player Zack Smithcontributed 15 points and snatched 5 rebounds. Jerrod Bullockprovided 10 points.

“We were able to play with them the first four minutes of the firstquarter,” said Loyd Star coach Gene (Moochie) Britt. “West Lincolnhas a very good and experienced team. We still have a lot ofimprovement to work on.”

In junior high action, the Loyd Star Lady Hornets crushed the LadyBears 37-6. Loyd Star was led by Marcey Givens with 10 points.Layton Sill was the top scorer for the Lady Bears with 3points.

In the boys’ game, the Bears outscored the Loyd Star Hornets for a38-23 victory. Duane Marshall pumped in a career-high 22 points tolead West Lincoln. Loyd Star received 7 points from Dorian Beardand Edrick Alsworth.
