Lynn Shepard Hollinger, 89, retired merchant, businessman,farmer, and church and community leader, left his earthly home inMeadville to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday,Dec. 1, 2010. Visitation at Franklin Funeral Home will be from 5until 9 p.m. on Thursday and on Friday, Dec. 3, at Meadville UnitedMethodist Church, beginning at 11 a.m. until the memorial serviceat 3 p.m. The Rev. David E. Cox of Meadville will officiate,assisted by the Rev. Michael F. Childs of Louisville. Intermentwill follow in Midway Cemetery in Meadville.

Mr. Hollinger was born May 24, 1921, and was a lifelong resident ofMeadville. He is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 62years, Doris Jean Wilkinson Hollinger; three sons, Fred Hollingerof Cary, N.C., Dr. Bruce Hollinger and his wife Leigh of Nashville,Tenn., and Mark Hollinger of Tucker, Ga.; three daughters, DorisLynn (Susie) H. Kimbrough and her husband Bob of Meadville, JeanShepard Hollinger of Colorado Springs, Col., and Joni Lee H. Smithand her husband Carey of Brookhaven. He is also survived by 11grandchildren, Holli Lynn K. Bizarro and her husband Pascal ofBowling Green, Ohio, Lindsay Alexander (Allin) Kimbrough ofJackson, John Robert Kimbrough of Meadville, Anna Grace Kimbroughof Nashville, Tenn., Savannah Lynn Boles of Tempe, Ariz., BonniRenee Boles of Greely, Col., Bradley Shepard Hollinger ofNashville, Sarah Elizabeth Hollinger of Nashville, Fred PrentissSmith of Brookhaven, Maggie Lynn Smith of Brookhaven, MadisonFielding Smith of Brookhaven; infant great-grandson, ParkerBenjamin Bizarro of Bowling Green, Ohio; sister-in-law, GlennaWilkinson Reihl of Algonquin, Ill.; six nieces/nieces-in-law; fivenephews/nephews-in-law; six great-nieces/nieces-in-law; and fivegreat-nephews/nephews-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Fielding HollingerSr. and Edna Sullivan Hollinger; sister, Olive Hollinger Hagan andhusband Lowell F. Hagan; brother, John F. Hollinger Jr. and wifeIrene Mullins Hollinger; two infant granddaughters, Angela JoyKimbrough and Emily Parker Kimbrough.

Mr. Hollinger graduated with honors from Meadville High School in1937 and Bowling Green Business University (accounting degree) inJanuary 1943. He served in World War II from February 1943 throughDecember 1945. While working in the Army Air Force ServiceCommand/Mediterranean Theater of Operations unit in Naples, Italy,Hollinger was the first to confiscate and report a counterfeit”Italian Allied Military Currency” bill.

Upon his return after the war, Mr. Hollinger rejoined the familybusiness, Hollinger’s Store, retiring at its closing in 1997. Inthe 1950s, he began what became one of his most enjoyedoccupations, that of a tree farmer. In earlier years he also servedon the Meadville School Board, volunteered with the Meadville FireDepartment, and was an active member of the Meadville CivitanClub.

Mr. Hollinger attended Meadville United Methodist Church his entirelife, serving as church treasurer for more than 50 years. He servedon various committees, taught Sunday School, and sang in the choiruntil May 2001. He was an active member of The Intercessors, aprayer group, which met in his home until his death. He was aone-man visitation ministry to Franklin County Memorial Hospital,Meadville Convalescent Home, and homebound citizens for many years,even after he could no longer drive himself.

He epitomized the gift of giving. “So let each one give as hepurposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for Godloves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NKJV).
