“It was just a joy to have a grandson that has done something we’venever done,” said Reardon.

The role for Josh Shaw, Reardon’s grandson, would comenaturally.

Playing football in high school in Richmond, Va., and for a year atMississippi College, Shaw was prepared for the four-day filmingsession at eight to 10 hours a day.

“We had to run plays 10 to 15 times just to get the right shot,”said Shaw. “It was a good experience, I enjoyed it.”

Shaw’s mother, Rachel Reardon Shaw, encouraged her son to answerthe casting call and go through the auditioning process afterwatching the news and learning of extras needed for themovie.

Rachel Shaw would join Josh Shaw on set and felt right at homewatching her son run plays.

“We’ve been doing football with him for six years,” said RachelShaw. “I asked if he got some good hits in, he said, ‘it’sacting’.”

With roots in Brookhaven, the self-described “football family”would be a great package for a movie involving the olepigskin.

“We’ve got some good athletes in Lincoln County,” said Reardon.”We’ve always been the greatest fans.”

Watching her son on set among a handful of other actors, RachelShaw would hone in on a skill most moms will be usingSaturday.

“A momma knows what her boy looks like running on the field,” saidRachel Shaw. “You just know those kind of things.”
