CLINTON — The cream of the crop of the MAIS were at MississippiCollege Friday night for the annual football all-star game,allowing players to showcase their talents one final time forcollege recruiters. Several junior colleges as well as Division Iand Division II schools were at Robinson-Hale Stadium to watch asthe all-star seniors played what many hope will not be their finalgame.

Brookhaven Academy was well represented in the game, with BA headcoach Herbert Davis serving as head coach for the South All-Stars.Davis was able to enjoy having four of his own players on the Southsquad in quarterback Chandler Rogers, wide receiver/running backJennings Mills, defensive end C.J. Duckworth, and linebacker AlanMichael Allred.

All four players saw time on the field and played a part in theSouth’s 27-21 victory over the North. Also, BA’s water girls, AnnaKatelyn Mangold and Mary Lindsey Magee, were chosen by Coach Davisto serve as hydration hostesses.

Rogers, one of four quarterbacks to see action for the South,completed 12 of his 17 pass attempts for 137 yards. Duckworth andAllred combined for 7 stops and Mills caught one pass for 11 yardsto help lead the South to the victory.

The North team drew first blood at the 4:36 mark of the firstquarter as Mack McDonald of Magnolia Heights scored on a 10-yardrun. Stance Henderson of Heritage Academy added the extra point fora 7-0 North lead.

The South squad responded at the 1:19 mark as Beau Gipson ofGlenbrook School connected with Hunter Farrior of Central Hindsfrom 11 yards out. The extra point attempt failed, closing thescore to 7-6.

Rogers directed the South’s next drive in the second quarter,passing for 76 of his 137 yards, setting up the South at the North1-yard line. On the next play, Ole Miss signee Cody Prewitt ofSylva- Bay dove over defenders for the score. The2-point conversionattempt failed, giving the South a 12-7 lead.

Davis’ squad increased their lead with 13 seconds remaining in thehalf as Dalton Welch of Jackson Prep connected with Teshadi Taltonof River Oaks on a 25 yard pass. Alex Lavalle of River Oaks addedthe extra point for a 20-7 lead.

The North cut the South lead to 20-14 at the 8:01 mark of the gameas McDonald scored on a 1- yard run.

The South responded with 2:07 left in the game as Welch connectedwith Cade Martin of Presbyterian Christian from 13 yards out.Lavalle added the extra point for a 27-14 lead.

The final score of the night came with 43 seconds remaining asMcDonald scored from 4 yards out, cutting the South lead to 27-21.The onside kick attempt for the North failed, allowing the South torun out the clock.

“It’s good for these kids to get a chance to showcase their talentsone last time.” said Davis “There are a lot of kids here tonightthat can play at the next level and I hope they get the chance todo it. We had four guys up here that are great athletes and theywere very important to our team and the success we had. We’recertainly going to miss them but they have bright futures ahead ofthem.”

When the four players were asked about their all-star experienceand playing one last time for Davis, the answer was unanimous. “Wejust wanted to have fun this week and meet a lot of the players weplayed against during the season.”

They all said with smiles. “It was a lot of fun and really specialfor us to be able to have Coach Davis up here with us.”
