Wesson honors athletes

GALLMAN – The Wesson Cobras honored their varsity athletes witha fall banquet to commemorate the football, softball andcheerleading squads.

Wesson head football coach Tommy Clopton welcomed the large crowdto the banquet that was held at the Extension Service building,located on the Copiah County fairgrounds.

Clopton, in his 7th year at the helm, said he was very proud of theyear they had. He thanked the Wesson booster clubs and all of theofficers that made the banquet possible. He also gave thanks toSmithie Buie and helpers for their hard work on cooking themeal.

After the meal, there was a short highlight show to honor theathletes in each sport and the awards were given to signify theirhard work.

Quarterback Matt Smith received the Most Valuable Player Award inthe football. Macie McQuage and Rials were selected Co-MostValuable Players in softball. Summer Rials also received theCheerleader of the Year Award for cheerleading.

Seniors in each sport was recognized with awards for their effort.All team members received certificates for theirparticipation.

Most Valuable Offensive Back: D.J. Coleman. Most Valuable OffensiveLineman: Derrick Lyles. Most Valuable Defensive Back: Peyton Cupit.Most Valuable Defensive Linebacker: Derrick Lyles. Team Captains:Gage Wilson and Matt Smith. Most Improved: Steve Jones. HustleAward: Barron Miller. Iron Cobra Award: Zach Wilson. Jim LoweryAttitude Award: Mac Lowery. Softball Awards

Best Offensive Player: Shauntay Walker. Best Defensive Player:Macie McQuage. Hustle Award: Makenzie Rials. Most Versatile Player:Summer Rials. Most Improved Award: Hanna Brown. Most ValuablePlayers: Macie McQuage and Summer Rials. 6-2A All-District:Makenzie Rials, Abbey Smith, Summer Rials, Shauntay Walker, MacieMcQuage.

Cheerleader Awards

Rookie of the Year Award: Elisa Whittington. Most Improved Award:Makenzie Rials. Heart of a Champion Award: Taylor Beasley. 110%Award: Katelyn Meese. Cheerleader of the Year: Summer Rials.
