Cathedral takes two over Wesson

WESSON — The Wesson Cobras suffered two losses to the NatchezCathedral Green Wave in soccer action Friday night. The Cobras lostin a disappointing 2-1 match while the Lady Cobras fell 7-2 in thedistrict contest.
During the first half of the girls game, the Lady Cobras (0-3) hadtrouble scoring against Cathedral’s strong defensive line. Wessondid score late in the first half off a penalty kick from JordanNettles. Scoring for the Lady Green Wave were Marty Ellard, MaddieKirkwood, and Maddie Christian. Cathedral’s Caitlin Lofton scoredtwo goals before the end of the half.
The Lady Cobras continued to struggle offensively during the secondhalf but were able to add one more goal to their total when Nettlesscored off a well-placed direct kick over Cathedral’s defensivewall. Scoring for the Lady Green Wave during the second half wereKirkland and Christian.

The Cobras fared a little better against the Green Wave losing byone goal in a very fast-paced game. The Green Wave controlled thefirst half with a 1-0 shutout after 40 minutes of play. Scoring forthe Green Wave in the first half was Jake McKinney.
During the second half, Kyle Bradley scored for the Green Wave,bringing the lead to 2-0. The Cobra’s persistence finally paid offin the last few minutes of the game when Emilio Collado made abeautiful pass to Tony DelCid who was able to score for theCobras.
The Wesson Cobras are 0-1 in district play and 1-3 overall. TheCobras will play two away games this week against Class 6A Natchezand archrival Loyd Star. Their next home game is scheduled for Dec.17, against Franklin County.
