Britt notches 1,000th win; Enterprise girls prevail

The Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets captured their first 6-2Adistrict game of the season with a 53-43 win over the Loyd StarLady Hornets Friday night in Loyd Star Gymnasium.

In varsity boys’ action, the Loyd Star Hornets cruised to a 71-59victory over the Enterprise Yellow Jackets for a big District 6-2Awin. It was Loyd Star coach Gene (Moochie) Britt’s 1,000th careerwin.

The Jackets and Lady Jackets resumes action Tuesday, Dec. 28 asthey take part in Dexter’s Holiday Tournament. Enterprise willbattle the Salem Wildcats. Tipoff begins at 3 p.m. with the girls’game, followed by the boys.

Loyd Star will take two weeks off to celebrate the Holidays beforereturning to action Jan. 4, traveling to Hinds AHS for another 6-2ADistrict test against the Bulldogs.

Enterprise 53, Loyd Star 43

Senior guard Karla Beth Hux pumped in a game-high 28 points to leadthe Lady Jackets. Hux also collected 3 steals and 4 assists.Caroleah Brister provided a double-double for Enterprise with 13points and 11 rebounds. Veonka Sanders snatched 10 rebounds.

“It is good to get our first district win,” said Enterprise coachJill Nations.

Junior center Tyrisha Patterson was the top scorer for the LadyHornets with 20 points. Senior guard Erica Smith contributed 10points. They had led Enterprise 23-18 at halftime.

The Lady Hornets (2-12) got 12 rebounds from Patterson. NatalieSmith had 9 reboundsd and Jordan Williams 8, plus 3 steals. EricaSmith made 3 assists and blocked 2 shots.

Coach Billy Vaughn said his Loyd Star girls resume play Dec. 27 inthe Picayune Tournament. They play Lumberton and Perry Central onDec. 28.

Loyd Star 71, Enterprise 59

Senior forward Zack Smith provided a game-high performance to leadthe Hornets with 32 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists.Terion Williams contributed 18 points, 9 rebounds and blocked 3shots. Hunter Hooge added 10 points.

“Our offensive and defensive effort was very good,” said CoachBritt. “We rebounded the ball very well and we were able to handletheir press. Overall, I am very pleased with our effort and it wasgood to get our first district win.”

Senior forward Sam Furr was the leading scorer for the Jackets with19 points. Thomas Allen netted 14 points. Grant Brister provided 10points.
