Allie Josephine Hill Hedgepeth, 76, formerly of Jackson, and anative of Memphis, Tenn., died unexpectedly on Oct. 1, 2010,following surgery for lung cancer.

The devoted wife of the late Jay Homer Hedgepeth, a native ofBrookhaven, Jo was the daughter of the late Thomas Bruce andPauline Baskin Michie Hill. She was the oldest of six siblings.

She is pre-deceased by her sister Paula Baskin Hill Carlos andbrother Thomas Michie Hill.

Mrs. Hedgepeth is survived by her daughter, Allison RheaHedgepeth Clock and her husband William John Clock of Newport News,Va.; her son, Jay Homer Hedgepeth Jr. and his wife Jeanne HedrichHedgepeth of Palatine, Ill.; her granddaughters, Madeline JosephineHunt LeCuyer and Grace Elizabeth Hedgepeth; sister, Margaret HillHolderfield of Jackson; brothers, Allen Bruce Hill (Libby) ofLexington, and Lloyd Rhea Hill (Trudy) of Urbandale, Iowa; and ahost of loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Jo also lived in Deerfield, Ill., where her husband Jay wasgeneral counsel of the American Hospital Association. She lived inJacksonville, Fla., since 1981, where her husband was generalcounsel of the Baptist Medical Center and then cared for him for 11years following his cerebral aneurysm. Mrs. Hedgepeth was acommunicant of St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, recently serving onits vestry as liaison to the Episcopal High School and to theEpiscopal Preschool. She was past director of the Sanctuary Guildand past president of the ECW, a former chalicer and acolyte. Shewas a current member of the Daughters of the King and of theThursday morning Bible Study. She was an active member of theWomen’s Board of the Wolfson Children’s Hospital-Baptist MedicalCenter and was first recipient of its Abbey Volunteer Award. Mrs.Hedgepeth was past president of the Empire Point Garden Circle,honorary lifetime member of Jacksonville Garden Club, and was amember of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago.

Mrs. Hedgepeth attended Mississippi College and Memphis StateUniversity. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Sheworked as a secretary for the American Petroleum Institute and wasa secretary to the Speaker of the House of Mississippi. InDeerfield, she worked for the public library. She cared deeply forher family.

Burial of ashes, beside her husband Jay, will be held inEasthaven Cemetery in Brookhaven at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15.Family will receive visitors after the service at the EpiscopalChurch of the Redeemer in Brookhaven. The family suggests donationsto the following churches: Episcopal Church of the Redeemer inBrookhaven or St. John’s Cathedral in Jacksonville, Fla.
