Patterson sparks Lady Hornets; boys fall

The Madison St. Joseph Bruins overpowered the host Loyd StarHornets for an 83-43 victory Friday night in Region 6-2A basketballaction.
In the girls’ game, the Loyd Star Lady Hornets capture their firstvictory in regional play with a 57-42 win over the Lady Bruins asunior center Tyrisha Patterson pumped in a game-high 19 points andgrabbed 17 rebounds to pace the romp.
The Hornets and Lady Hornets resumes action Tuesday hosting Puckettfor another regional matchup. The girls’ game is set to begin at 6p.m., followed by the boys.
St. Joe 83, Loyd Star 43
Sophomore forward Terion Williams knocked down 18 points andgrabbed 4 rebounds to lead the Hornets (2-12, 1-2). Zack Smith wasthe leader on the board with 6 rebounds.
“Turnovers really hurt us,” said Loyd Star coach Gene “Moochie”Britt. “We played very poorly and did not shoot the ball verywell.”
St. Joe (11-7, 3-0) had four players to score in double figures.Nick Pernell was the leading scorer with 19 points. Denarius Odelland Jalen Davis contributed 15 points apiece. Nick Beasley added10.

The Lady Hornets (4-14, 1-2) got support from Erica Smith whoknocked down 14 points, collected 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 5assists. Melody Smith provided 11 points.
“We had four good quarters and that’s the kind of consistency weneed,” said Loyd Star coach Billy Vaughn. “I saw a lot ofpositives.”
