WESSON – The No. 8 ranked Co-Lin Lady Wolves (11-1, 3-0) managedto protect home court with a 66-55 win over the Mississippi GulfCoast Lady Bulldogs Thursday night at Graydon L. Mullins Gymnasiumon Coach Gwyn Young Court.

In the men’s action, Jermiah Dunnings launched a hail marythree-pointer beyond half-court hitting nothing but net as thebuzzer sounded and the Bulldogs escaped the Wolves with a 60-59victory in South Division action.

The Lady Wolves and Wolves will return to action Thursday travelingto Decatur to face the East Central Warriors for a big SouthDivision match up. The game is set to begin with the women’s actionat 6 p.m., followed by the men’s.

Co-Lin 66, Gulf Coast 55

The Lady Wolves had four players to score in double figures.Sophomore guard Kiara Etienne pumped in 18 points to lead Co-Lin.Sedreka Plummer contributed a double-double on the night with 17points and 10 rebounds. Paige Webster chipped in with 13 points.JaQuandria Williams added 10 points.

“We shot the ball very well in the first half,” said Co-Lin women’scoach Gwyn Young. “We should have took advantage to their coldshooting and increased our lead a little bit more.”

“In the second half, we did not play to our potential,” continuedYoung. “We had a tough time guarding No. 33 (Deonica McCormick).She managed to penetrate the lane against us and got some easybaskets. We also allowed them to get too many offensive reboundsfor second chance opportunities. Overall, I am very pleased withthe girls effort and proud to get the win.”

The Lady Bulldogs (11-4, 2-2), coached by Melanie Stone, were ledin scoring by McCormick, a Biloxi native, with a game-high 28points.

Gulf Coast 60, Co-Lin 59

The Co-Lin Wolves tried to nurse a four-point lead in the closingseconds before Dunnings hit a three-pointer to cut the score to58-57 with 4 seconds left. The Bulldogs immediately fouled on thenext possession putting Co-Lin Ernest Wafer on the line. Wafermanaged to hit 1 of 2 free throws with 2.6 seconds. Gulf Coastrebounded the missed free throw and passed the ball to Dunnings forthe final shot with 1.1 seconds left.

Sophomore Marcus Hooten knocked down a game-high 18 points to leadthe Wolves (5-7, 1-2). Jamaal McCoy provided 16 points and grabbed6 rebounds.

“This is a heck-of-a-way to lose a game,” said Co-Lin men’s coachDennis Sims. “We missed two crucial free throws in the closingseconds that could have won the game for us.”

“Overall, the guys played very hard in the second half,” continuedSims. “I am pleased to see that we did not commit too manyturnovers in the game.”

The Bulldogs (10-5, 3-1), coached by Wendell Weathers, had threeplayers in double digits. Freshman Justin Childs pumped in 15points to lead Miss. Gulf Coast; Jeffrey Simmons contributed 13points; Guy Payne added 10 points.
