Hornets, Yellow Jackets split

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets showed some pep in their step as theywere energized in their all black uniform with white trim and rednumbers. They cruised past the Enterprise Lady Jackets 47-21 in animportant Region 6-2A win Tuesday night at Enterprise.
In boys’ action, the Enterprise Jackets used their defense to pullaway from the Loyd Star Hornets in the second half for a 56-37victory.
Loyd Star resumes action Friday, hosting the Hinds AHS Bulldogs foranother big Region 6-2A matchup. Tipoff is 6 p.m. with the girls’game followed by the boys.
The Jackets and Lady Jackets will be in action Friday, traveling toPuckett to battle the Wolves and Lady Wolves for a big regionalmatchup. Game time is 6 p.m. with the girls. Immediately followingis the boys.
Loyd Star 47, Enterprise 21
Junior center Tyrisha Patterson pumped in a game-high double-doublewith 18 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Lady Hornets (6-15,3-3). Natalie Smith chipped in with 11 points and blocked twoshots. Erica Smith grabbed 10 rebounds.
“The girls played very well defensively,” said Loyd Star coachBilly Vaughn. “We are starting to get a constant contribution fromthe seven girls that play a lot of minutes. But we still need towork on our free throws.”
Junior forward Caroleah Brister was the leader for the Lady Jackets(9-14, 3-3) with 8 points and 4 rebounds.
“We managed to get the high percentages shot, but we just could notget our shots to go down,” said Enterprise coach JillNations.
Enterprise 56, Loyd Star 37
Senior forward Thomas Allen knocked down a game-high 17 points tolead the Jackets (4-19, 2-4). Allen also grabbed 5 rebounds,collected 4 steals and 3 assists. Sam Furr provided a double-doublewith 14 points and snatched 12 rebounds. Nathan Foster added 14points.
“We started the game off slow,” said Enterprise coach John Knight.”Foster came in and did a good job for us. He was our spark plug onoffense to get things going.
“I am very proud on how well my three seniors played,” continuedKnight. “Our defense in the second half was great and that allowedus to pull away.”
Sophomore forward Terion Williams pumped in 14 points and grabbed 6rebounds to lead the Hornets (3-13, 2-4). Senior Zack Smith chippedin with 11 points and crashed the boards for 8 rebounds.
“We did very well in the first half,” said Loyd Star coach Gene”Moochie” Britt. “In the second half, we were a total differentteam. We did not play, shoot and control the ball like we should.We also had too many turnovers.”
In JV action, the Lady Jackets managed to hold off the Lady Hornets22-17 as Jannah Wilson led Enterprise with 8 points.
Raigan Smith was the leader for Loyd Star with 8 points.
In the boys’ game, Loyd Star crushed Enterprise 35-12. Anson Foxknocked down 12 points to lead the Hornets. Rictavious Butler added6 points.
Jared Vaughn was the top scorer for the Jackets with 4 points.
