Catcher Karla Beth Hux, pitcher Chynna Coghlan and outfielderKaitlin Moak have made a major impact on their Enterprise fastpitchsoftball team’s steady climb up the ladder of success. They hope tokeep that high energy level next year after signing softballscholarships with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College LadyWolves.

On a cold, overcast Wednesday, the Enterprise trio lit up theschool’s library with their smiles. They were surrounded by familyand friends for the afternoon ceremony.

“I’m very excited and I’m looking forward to next year,” said Moak.She plans to be dormitory roommates with Hux and Coghlan. She wantsto major in elementary education.

“We have been playing together for seven years so I’m real excitedabout us playing at Co-Lin,” said Hux. She and Coghlan areundecided about their major in college.

“I’m looking forward to playing softball with our Southern Ice teammembers,” said Coghlan. Southern Ice is a summer travel teamcomposed of Co-Lin freshman and high school seniors.

Enterprise softball coach Steve Sasser’s face beamed with pride ashe watched his three standout players take turns posing forpictures. “They have been with us all through junior high and highschool. They are the foundation of our program. They are excellentball players as well as students, and they are fine young ladies,too.”

Co-Lin head softball coach Allen Kent said he was happy to have theEnterprise trio join his Lady Wolves. “We are looking forward tohaving these girls join our program. They work hard on the fieldand in the classroom.

” They have continued to enhance their talents by playing summertravel ball,” Kent noted. “This group, along with several otherlocal girls, have been playing summer ball together for many yearsand it has definitely been beneficial.”

Hux, a 5-foot-3 right-hander, is the daughter of Kyle and the lateKim Hux. As a junior, she batted .488. She had a .559 on-basepercentage and a .713 slugging percentage. She hit 4 triples and 7doubles, striking out only twice all season.

“Karla Beth has explosive power and has the potential to put upsome very good offensive numbers,” said Kent. “She has experiencebehind the plate, at third base and in the outfield. Herversatility is certainly an attribute.”

Moak, a 5-3 southpaw, is the daughter of Joel and Barbara Moak.She posted a .316 batting average. She coaxed 19 walks and owned a.449 on-base percentage.

“Kaitlin is a slapper with exceptional speed'” said Kent. “She’ssteadily improved and is a legitimate threat when she puts it inplay on the ground. She’s capable of racking up a good number ofstolen bases. She’s an outfielder with good instincts.”

Coghlan, a 5-4 right-hander, is the daughter of Chad and CrystalCoghlan. She authored an 8-3 pitching record as the Lady YellowJackets advanced to the Class 2A state playoffs last season. Shepitched 10 complete games.

In the circle, Coghlan faced 310 batters and issued only 9 bases onballs. She struck out 62 batters and posted a 2.65 ERA.

Opponents managed a .213 team batting average when they facedCoghlan. She only allowed 10 extra base hits.

“Chynna has some good movement on her pitches, but is a littleslower than a lot of the pitching in our league,” Kent pointed out.”However, that is not necessarily a bad thing and it can definitelywork to her advantage. She’s a good change of pace and should besuccessful if she hits her spots.”

Kent signed three Bogue Chitto standouts today: catcher DarcyMiller, shortstop Josie Porter and second baseman Bradi Davis. OnTuesday, catcher Shelby Mitchell of Lawrence County signed.

In the near future, Kent said he planned to sign infielder KaitlanMelton of Adams County Christian School, and pitcher JenniferStaruska of New Caney, Texas.
