Lady Wolves blast Jones Co.

WESSON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves (13-1, 5-0) struggled to getthings going, but found their groove to cruise by the Jones CountyLady Bobcats 77-56 in South Division play Monday night at GraydonL. Mullins Gymnasium on Coach Gwyn Young Court.
In men’s action, the Bobcats came out on fire and never looked backas Jones County crushed the Co-Lin Wolves 92-72.
The Lady Wolves and Wolves return to action Thursday, traveling toSummit to face the Southwest Bears for a big South DivisionMatchup. The game is set to begin with the women’s action at 5p.m., followed by the men.
Co-Lin 77, Jones Co. 56
The Lady Wolves had four players score in double figures. KiaraEtienne pumped in a game-high 25 points to lead Co-Lin. PaigeWebster knocked down 15 points. Brandi Simmons provided adouble-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Sedreka Plummer added11 points.
“Both teams played very well and hard in the first half,” saidCo-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young. “Our bench did a good job for usand provided the spark we needed to get things going. Overall, werebounded the ball really well. I was very pleased with our teameffort.”
Tanecka Carey was the leader for the Lady Bobcats (12-4, 5-1) with14 points and 10 rebounds. Alondra Rivers added 12 points.
“Co-Lin whipped our tails both offensively and defensively,” saidJones County coach Sandra Sumrall.”

The Bobcats (9-8, 4-1) came out firing on all cylinders in thefirst half taking it to Co-Lin early and knocking them out of theirgame plan. Matters did not help that the Wolves shot a freezing 5of 28 from the field and the Bobcats controlled a 51-15 lead athalftime.
The Wolves (6-8, 2-3) showed better signs of life in the secondhalf by fighting back to outscore Jones County 57-41.
Kelvin Nixon pumped in a game-high 24 points to lead Jones. BrandonGivens and Kadeem Fleming netted 12 points apiece.
“Jones County played hard,” said Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims.”They have some athletic players that played aggressive and we didnot bow up. We played horrible both offensively and defensively inthe first half.”
Earnest Wafer knocked down a team-high 19 points to lead theWolves. Marcus Hooten chipped in 18 points. Antonio Holmescontributed 15 points and Jamaal McCoy added 10.
“We played a lot better in the second half,” continued Sims. “I wasglad to see the guys gave an effort to do better in the secondhalf, because it could have been worse.”
