Jackets, Cobras divide

WESSON – The Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets rallied in thefourth quarter and outscored the Wesson Lady Cobras 17-3 to capturea 55-50 win in Region 6-2A action at the Snake Pit.

In the boys’ game, basketball fans got to witness anotherhard-fought battle as the Wesson Cobras managed to hold off theEnterprise Jackets in the fourth quarter for a 69-64 victory.

The Cobras and Lady Cobras resume action Friday, hosting theHinds AHS Bulldogs for a key regional matchup. Tip off is 6 p.m.with the girls’ game, followed by the boys.

Enterprise 55, Wesson 50

Senior guard Karla Beth Hux pumped in a game-high 23 points tolead the Lady Jackets (11-15, 4-4). She also collected 3 rebounds,7 steals and 3 assists. Sophomore forward Caroleah Bristercontributed 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assist. Veonka Sandersadded 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.

“My girls were very focused on winning the game,” saidEnterprise coach Jill Nations. “Both teams played really hard.”

Junior guard Madison Rials scored a team-high 12 points to leadthe Lady Cobras (6-13, 1-7). Summer Rials chipped in 10 points.

“You can not win games when you commit 32 turnovers,” saidWesson coach Rusti Magee. “We have got to learn to finish gameswhen we are up.”

Wesson 69, Enterprise 64

The Cobras (7-10, 5-3) had four players to score in doublefigures. Senior guard D.J. Coleman was the leader with a team-high19 points and 7 rebounds. Kaleb Skinner netted 12 points. KyleCross provided 11 points and James Clay had 10.

“I was glad to see the guys battle back in the second half,”said Wesson coach Rusty Newman. “We had a lot of players to step upand play a lot of minutes.”

Senior forward Sam Furr pumped in a game-high double-double with25 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Jackets (5-21, 3-5). ThomasAllen contributed 22 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4assists.

“We played a very good first half,” said Enterprise coach JohnKnight. “In the second half, we could not get our shots to fall andwe were not aggressive on defense.”

In JV action, the Wesson Lady Cobras smashed the Enterprise LadyJackets 31-17 as Carley Price scored 8 points to leadEnterprise.

Taylor Smith pumped in a game-high 12 point to lead Wesson.

In boys’ action, the Cobras managed to outlast the Jackets in a30-24 win. James Clay was the leading scorer with 10 points forWesson.

Forrest Scott netted 7 points to lead the Jackets.
