Case, Price spark Bears; Lady Cats rally past WL

West Lincoln guards Jay Case and De Price made sure Bogue Chittodidn’t have a an opportunity to keep Tuesday night’s game close.Case and Price each scored 21 points as the unbeaten Bears buriedthe Bobcats 79-39 much to the delight of the large, partisan crowdgathered in Jack Case Gymnasium.
In the varsity girls game, Bogue Chitto staged a second-halfcomeback and beat the Lady Bears 49-38 as senior guard Josie Porterpumped in 18 points in the Division 7-1A arch rivalry.
West Lincoln makes its final home floor appearance Thursday night,hosting MSD for a division doubleheader. Senior Night festivitiesbegin at 5:45.
Bogue Chitto resumes play Friday at Vicksburg St. Aloysius. TheDivision 7-1A Tournament is next week at MSD. The Lady Cats (24-1,9-0) and Bears (24-0, 9-0) are seeded No. 1.
The Bears, recognized as the only unbeaten boys basketball teamremaining in Mississippi, resembled green lightning in the firsthalf, roaring to a 45-20 lead. They didn’t resemble the team thatescaped BC’s Calhoun Gymnasium with a narrow 45-41 comeback winJan. 14.
“Everybody was talking that (Bobcats) were going to beat us,” saidCase. “We tried to put them away the first half.”
Case missed his first four field goal attempts but then pumped in 4treys. He also had 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
“Nobody could guard De Price the first half,” WL coach Lane Youngnoted. “He had 17 points and was unstoppable. We crashed the boardsand got a lot of rebounds, too.”
Price poured in 17 first-half points. He cashed in a short jumperafter taking a long pass from Case, giving the hosts a 12-2 leadwith 2:39 left in the first quarter. Jared, Jay Case’s youngerbrother, contributed 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 9 points to thetriumph.
Calvin Kees accounted for 12 points and 13 rebounds in the lopsidedwin. Lucas Burris added 10 points and 8 rebounds.
“They jumped on us real quick and we didn’t recover,” said BC coachJeremy Harrell. “We have some things to work on before nextweek.”
Harrell’s Bobcats (16-9, 6-3)were paced by Germie Martin’s 11points.
The Lady Bobcats erased a 22-21 halftime deficit to beat the LadyBears for the third time this season. Tesheon Rogers banked in ashort jumper off the glass for a 26-24 BC lead with 6:19 left inthe third quarter and the hosts never recovered. That ignited a 7-0run.
“We tried to increase the tempo in the second half,” said BC coachChristi Terrell. “West Lincoln played really hard. They made uswork for it.”
Center Teareon Rogers added 11 points and 7 rebounds to the win.Guard Aneisha Dillon netted 10 points.
West Lincoln (14-10, 6-3) got 18 points from senior guard KarliHerrington. She scored 13 first-half points, netting 4 treys.
Center Katie Mullins chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Jr. Varsity Results
West Lincoln beat the Bobcats 44-29 in the junior varsity boysgame, led by Deon Moore’s 19 points. LaKeith Ward chipped in 8points, Sam Bivens 7 and Duane Marshall 6.
Nine points by Frank Thigpen led the Bobcats. Darius Martin netted8 points.
