Area singer exits ‘Idol’ competition

Area residents will have to pick a new “American Idol” favoriteafter hometown girl Jacquelyn Dupree, of Summit, took an early bowfrom the popular singing show contest Thursday.

Dupree advanced past her New Orleans audition in October, which wasaired on television Jan. 20, with yeses from judges Steven Tyler,Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez.

From the Big Easy, Dupree went on to the Hollywood phase of thecontest, which aired Thursday evening. In last night’s episode, shewas not chosen to advance any further in the competition.

“I was really disappointed for her, but she has come out of thiswith a positive attitude,” said Susan’s Shoppe owner SusanNash.

Dupree, 24, is a former manager of Nash’s Summit store and formeremployee of Nash’s Brookhaven location. Nash said Dupree could beheard singing around the shop until she stopped working for heraround Thanksgiving to relocate to Baton Rogue, La.

“It was always nice to hear her beautiful voice at the shop,” saidNash.

Nash mentioned that Dupree said that she is receiving a lot ofpositive feedback on her Facebook page.

“I do believe she is planning on doing it again next year,” saidNash.
