Boil water notice issued after line break

A broken water main on Highway 51 near the old Potter plant leftmany citizens of Wesson without water around 4 a.m. Saturday.However, the outage may have been nothing more than aninconvenience.

“Most people slept in on Saturday and never knew it except they hadlow pressure,” said Shaw.

Shaw said a boil water notice would be in effect as a precautionarymeasure until at least Wednesday as required by the healthdepartment.

Officials will have to take three days worth of samples to makesure the water is not contaminated. However, the health departmentis not open on Sunday and that will cause a delay in reporting thesamples.

“We’ve never had a bad sample,” said Shaw. “Most likely it’s a72-hour thing.”

The water situation would worsen for Wesson Saturday evening, as asecond break would occur near the administration building on theCopiah-Lincoln Community College campus. Shaw said he was uncertainas to when the second line would be fixed, but added that the eventwas isolated to Co-Lin.

“I guarantee they will not leave until it is fixed,” said Shaw.
