BHS girls win twice

MONTICELLO – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers captured two wins insoftball action Saturday as they blanked the Lawrence County LadyCougars 18-0 and crushed the Vicksburg Lady Gators 12-0.

“This was an outstanding day for us,” said Brookhaven head coachChad Walker. “We had a total team effort from the girls.”

The Lady Panthers returns to the diamond today, traveling to Summitto face the North Pike Lady Jaguars. Junior varsity play begins at5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6:30.

Brookhaven 18, Lawrence Co. 0

Brooke Hosick (1K, 3 BB) was the winning pitcher in the circle forthe Lady Panthers. Emily Turnage (1K, 8BB) absorbed the loss forthe Lady Cougars.

Christen Benson and Hosick provided the offensive explosion forBrookhaven with a double and a single apiece. Erica Bridwell beltedthree singles and Madeline DeLaughter hit two singles. Hittingsafely were Sarah Ayers, Emily Freeman, Shelby Case and ShelbyPeavey.

Lawrence County received singles from Kayla Byrd, Shelby Mitchelland Emily Turnage.

Brookhaven 12, Vicksburg 0

Hosick (3K, 1BB) collected her second straight shutout of the dayfor Brookhaven. Faith Thomas (3K, 3BB) took the loss for the LadyGators. She also was the only hitter for Vicksburg with asingle.

Hosick was the leader for Lady Panthers on offense as she smashed ainside-the-park home run. Emily Freeman contributed two singles.Peavey, Case, DeLaughter and Ayers hit safely for Brookhaven.
