Williams no-hits Wesson

Jacob Williams threw a 5-inning, no-hitter as the LawrenceCounty Cougars defeated the Wesson Cobras 8-0 Tuesday afternoon. Itwas the opening game of the Brookhaven Invitational Tournament atMoyer Field. Williams walked 2 and struck out 5, facing just 18batters to record 15 outs.

Coach Cory Keyes’ Cougars improved to 3-0 with the win. LawrenceCounty will return to Moyer Field to face McComb on Friday.

“Jacob did a good job,” Keyes said. “For the most part, he threwstrikes, and mixed his breaking ball in well. We made a couple ofnice plays behind him.”

Cougar centerfielder Tucker Smith singled and scored in the first,staking Williams to a 1-0 lead. Smith got his second hit, andscored his second run in the third, making it a 2-0 game. LawrenceCounty erupted for 6 in the bottom of the fourth, on 3 hits.Williams had a double, and Matt Patterson and Dylan Lea hadsingles, in the frame.

Left-hander Gib Britt started and threw 3 quality innings for CoachSeth Lofton’s Cobras. He gave up 2 runs on 2 hits, and struck out2.

Josh Smith and Bailey Warren also saw mound duty for the Cobras.Britt was also Wesson’s most productive hitter, drawing 2 bases onballs and stealing a base.
