West Lincoln dumps Jackets; Enterprise whips South Pike

MONTICELLO – Enterprise managed to capture a split during abaseball doubleheader Monday afternoon on Jimmie Davis Park in theLawrence County Spring Break Baseball Tournament. In the firstgame, the Yellow Jackets fell to the West Lincoln Bears 9-5, butthey crushed the South Pike Eagles 15-3 in the second game.

The Jackets (4-4) resume action in the tournament on Thursday andtangle with the host Lawrence County Cougars at 7:30 p.m.

The Bears (3-4) return to the diamond of Jimmie Davis Park onWednesday to battle the Bogue Chitto Bobcats at 10 a.m.

West Lincoln 9, Enterprise 5

West Lincoln overcame a rough start to outscore the Jackets 8-5 inthe first four innings as left-hander Jared Case provided a greatpitching performance for the Bears. Case pitched a complete game,striking out 11 batters and only walking two.

Garrett Greer (6K, 3BB) absorbed the loss for Enterprise as thestarter. Pitching in relief were Blake Fugler (0K, 0BB) and DylanSmith (5K, 3BB).

Jacob Lea provided the offensive spark for the Bears by hitting atwo-run home run in the third inning. Jonathan Buckley continued tofuel the flames with a double and a single. Jay Case contributedthree singles. Hitting safely were Jared Case, Tyler Moak and TylerRoberts.

“Jared Case threw a great game for us, said West Lincoln coachSteve Barrington. “He did a good job keeping Enterprise offbalance.

“Jacob Lea gave us a big boost of momentum, when he hit a home runin the third and that trigger a big rally for us,” continuedBarrington. “Overall, I was very pleased with our effort, but westill have a lot of work to do defensively.”

Greer was the offensive leader for the Jackets with two doubles.Dylan Smith belted a double. Enterprise recorded singles from CodyWhite, Blake Fugler and Nathan Foster.

“We started the game off good, but our bats went cold as the gameprogressed,” said Enterprise coach Cass Brister. “West Lincoln dida good job coming back to win the game.”

Enterprise 15, South Pike 3

The Jackets’ bats came alive in the second game, after a 3-hourrain delay, to crush the winless Eagles in four innings.

Cody White was the winning pitcher for Enterprise as he pitched ano-hitter, striking out two batters and walking four. DevontaeMcKnight was the losing pitcher for South Pike with no strikeoutsand one walk.

“We hit the ball really well at the end of the second game,”continue Coach Brister. “Hopefully, we can have this same momentumwhen district starts up for us.”

White was the leader on offense for the Jackets with a double and asingle. Konner Burke and Dylan Smith contributed a double apiece.Garrett Smith belted two singles. Hitting safely were BraxtonFoster, Chance Owens, Grant Brister and Nathan Foster.
