WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras remain undefeated in Division6-2A softball action as they defeated district rival, the Loyd StarLady Hornets 7-2 Monday night.

“I am glad to be 2-0 in district action,” said Wesson coach JackieJohnson. “But we still have a lot of work to do to prepareourselves for Thursday matchup.”

The Lady Cobras (5-0-1, 2-0) gear up for an important division gameThursday as they travel to Enterprise to face the Lady Jackets.Junior varsity starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6p.m.

The Lady Hornets (0-4, 0-1) return home to host the Puckett LadyWolves Thursday, with JV beginning at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6p.m.

Wesson 7, Loyd Star 2

The Lady Cobras took advantage of Loyd Stars miscues in the fifthand sixth innings to increase their lead to 7-1 going into thefinal inning. The youthful Lady Hornets made great stridesthroughout the game after the first inning but were unsuccessful asWesson used their experience to control the game. Loyd Star leftseveral runners on base.

Makenzie Rials was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cobras withseven strikeouts and two walks. Bonnie Burks suffered the setbackfor the Lady Hornets with three strikeouts, one walk and four hitbatters.

Hannah Brown was the offensive leader for Wesson with a triple.Macie McQuage, Abbey Smith and Sarah Robinson contributed a doubleapiece. Hitting safely were Jessica Delaney and AshtonNewman.

Sarah Falvey was the offensive spark for Loyd Star with a doubleand three singles. The Lady Hornets got doubles from Hannah Smithand Haleigh Hux. Haley Smith belted a single.

“We are a very young team,” said Loyd Star coach Jan Delaughter.”We still have to learn that we need to play a complete game towin. Overall, I was pleased with the girls effort, but Wesson tookadvantage of our mistakes.”

In JV action, the Lady Hornets rallied to sting the Lady Cobras9-5.

Julie Smith produced the offensive firepower for Loyd Star with ahome run and double. Lexie Butler provided some ammunition with ahome run. Raigan Smith and Haleigh Hux contributed a singleapiece.

Wesson was led on offense by Haleigh Chinn with a triple. The LadyCobras got singles from Sarah Miller and Ashton Smith.
